holes on silver strip????

I have purchased a tomtom go 520 today (had several problems earlier with the 720, which i had returned 4 times to different shops!, because of the handsfree fault. decided to try a 520) the unit works great even the handsfree, but i have noticed the image of the device on the box shows 3 holes on the silver strip. my unit only has 2, on looking at an old magazine review image this too has the 2 holes. so i took a look at tomtoms website and the devices on there have 3 holes! is this a late design change (i presume some of those holes are for the mic) to improve handsfree voice and recognition?

In the production models, one hole is for the mic and the other is for the light sensor.
I've no idea what they thought they were going to do with the other one!

There was a recent topic about asking TomTom why the picture on the box shows the present road with a blue background, but the real thing doesn't...Someone spotted and mentioned the extra hole then, but no one said they knew what it was for...
