|

Hi All,
It's been a long while since I posted a question, so here goes.
I've just bought a TomTom 720 after several succesful years of using my Ipaq 3970 with TomTom Navigator 2 and of cause GPS world's safety cameras database & CheckPoint POI's.
My question is that altough the 720 is very good and I'm very pleased with it, the safety camera setup is, puting it mildly, crap. It is therfore my intention to use the GPS World database, once I've signed up that is.
So can you please tell me which safety camera database I need to download, as it's always been confusing in the past with so many options.
single
consolidated
zoned.
I want all the diffent options and camera types
speed
voice warning, etc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

The info is all on the speed cam download page (below the red/green compatibility section) and the TomTom FAQs in this forum, but the quick answer is:
Speedzoned ov2
plus ogg files for alerts |

Andy,
Is it possible to just to disable the TT 720 safety cameras before I install the PGPSW cameras. I don't want to delete. |

I would assume so...
I've never used the TT ones on my old machines.
On my new 720 I have a free trial and I seem to have all the TT camera files installed on the machine already but going to the icon in the "Plus" menu won't let me configure them until I've connected up to 'Home' and "joined the service".
As TomTom customer services have taken 5 days to fail miserably to change the device on my account, I haven't been able to take them up on their offer!
If you can see a menu to disable them I'd have thought that was fine.
As an experiment you could leave them enabled with a different warning sound and see how the two databases compare... |

Hi Andy,
Got it sorted, in fact it was embarrassingly easy to switch off TT Safety Cameras.
Go to TT Plus, Safety Cameras, and switch off Alerts.
I've downloaded the PGPSW Cameras and .ogg files (LIZ) and all seem's to be working well. I might add a few of my own .ogg file for the missing ones.
Anyway thanks for your help. |

Don't forget with the 720 you have the option to use the Text To Speech system to read out what you type, this is often easier to do than creating an ogg file. Just make sure you have a computer voice such as "Kate" selected and when setting up the POI warnings choose the "Type in your own warning" option followed by whatever text you want the device to speak when you encounter a POI associated with that category - Mike |

The set-up guide for the TomTom 910 details how to use the Text To Speech engine for warnings, if you want to have a read of it you can find it Here - I appreciate you have a different device but it is nigh on identical in terms of setting up this way - Mike |
