Hi,
I am new to this forum, so firstly id like to say hello!
I am a BIG tomtom fan, just upgraded to a TomTom 720 after having my trusty 700 for the past 2 years.
However its sad to say that the new tomtom 720 doesnt seem to be as well built as my 700.
I am now currently on my 3rd unit, and getting more and more embarrsing every time i take it back to currys.
I have found re-occurring faults in all 3 and different ones in them separatly.
My lastest tomtom 720 is a fairly good one, i think the only thing i can really complain about this one is the speaker volume via FM transmitter.
The MP3s come out blasting, but the POI sounds and voices are very quiet in comparason to the MP3 volume.
The sound if coming out the internal speaker is generally quite good but if you go over 90% it gets quite tinny.
Also bugging me a bit, which are reoccuring faults is the day/night option doesnt work, it always thinks its night time.
And also if you setup POI having the Beep* sounds, it seems to lose the settings and goes back to Bell1.

Have you tried adjusting the volume on the 720 to make the voices louder via FM radio?
It maybe a compatibility issue with your car radio? Was it better on the previous 720's you had?
I think the other problems with day/night and POI sounds is a software bug, as most people have reported that settings are not always saved or have been reset after using Home.
Hopefully new software updates will fix that.
I sent my 720 back, and not sure yet if I want another one due to all the faults they have at the moment. If I do get another one it will be from a high street retailer, as is easier to return.
It would be interesting to know how many 720's are being returned. It must be nearly 50%

Daft question, perhaps, but have you by any chance inadvertently tapped "Use night colours"? Very easy to do with it being top entry on first page of preferences. If you have tapped it, that item will now read "Use day colours".
What have you done with "Brightness preferences"? - mine is set to ..
Day brightness 100%
Night brightness 15%
Turn brightness down when dark - is Ticked.
Switch to night view when dark - is NOT ticked. _________________ Dennis

Hi guys,
Thanks for replies.
Re FM radio, If you turn the volume down on the TT720 then on the radio it all gets quieter, not just the Mp3.
I have noticed on the Mp3 play part, there is a volume control here, however this seems to be global for both mp3 and voices. It would be handy to have a mp3 volume and a speech volume.
With regards to the colours, in the settings, i have
Brightness 90%
Darkness 20%
Dim when dark ticked
Switch to night view ticked.
The screen then goes into night vision. If i click on the change to day colours it asks a question, say yes and it stays dark.
I now have both the bottom options unticked and change the day/night manually.
