Anyone tried choosing an address by voice recognition I tried mine out. Voice recognition accepts city and street but when it comes to house number like 171 it reads it back as 171 but then says 171 and with a slight pause it adds anothoer number on the end and says 1716 and then adds another number on the end. Called TT help and played it to them while on the phone, he said that shouldn't happen took my email address and said he would get back to me. Even though I have disabled tips, a tip comes up in voice recognition and locks my 720 have to turn it off to get out of it.
Has anyone else had the same

no, haven't seen that. But with my distinct non-english accent I have not much luck with street names either

I had extra digit in number a couple of times today. I presumed I had over-emphasised a vowel or consonant, or coughed or allowed an exterior noise to sneak in.

I too am getting just a tiny bit annoyed at some tips still coming up in spite of disabling them. But I haven't had a lockup from it. Why can't TT give a menu icon that does exactly what it says on the tin?

Lutz, do you not suppose it can learn to understand an accent? Or am I giving too much credit? Anyway, I thought you speak quite a lot of languages - are none of the TT ones suitable for your accent? You could be the only guy in Texas with an unstealable TT which speaks Russian.

Some of my attempts get quite odd results - I suppose I should read the manual to find out how to be understandable, but so far I've managed with a bit of trial and error (and a certain amount of exaggerated speech). It was quite by stroke of luck that I discovered that when the wrong suggestions for city/street come up, I can say "NO" firmly and it goes back for an other try. I bet that's in the manual too! I did try "Paris" in my best French accent, with absolutely no success at all, but then I discovered that it's necessary to change the country before trying foreign cities.

Noticed that if the street name or city suggestion is not the top one in the list but the correct one is further down, then you can just call out the number in the list and it will select the right one.

My 720 is adding on its extra numbers. Even speaking the 'queens english' seems too much for to understand. Good job I don't see the point of the feature. Lets face it - voice recon, in general still has a long way to go. I did think that maybe Tomtom might have nailed it with this one ! Oh well, better luck next time.

Well, I think they HAVE nailed it, at least very close indeed and it's a feature which has already persuaded me to be happy with the 720. I'm not greatly surprised there are blips, but I don't find them too significant - I can wipe off the extra house number using the "left clear" arrow/button. When I tried "Leamington" today I got nowhere, but when I tried "Leamington Spa", it came up as number 1. Sure, I try to speak carefully and exaggeratedly sometimes, but it still beats tapping loads of letters beyond arm's length over by the windscreen. Hands free navigation as well as phone, can't be bad. As soon as I get time, I'll settle down to studying the manual to truly find out how to do it - I can't blame Tom Tom for that omission on my part.

I have certainly experienced the extra digits syndrome on the address. Town and street name recognition works well IMHO but stating "FOUR", "THREE" for my work address enters "43", (pause) "446" or something equally obscure!!!

Haven't found a fix for that yet - and there doesn't seem to be much info in the manual!!! :-)

I had a similar problem. Said something like 7 - 0 and got 7088. Then I said "back" twice to remove the extra digits and then "OK" to get 70.

Well, I got miffed by all y'all's comments, and changed my TTS voice to Philippa, erm, Kate. This is a complete shot in the dark but I think now the recognition rate is much better as compared to the US TT voice. What gives?

Lutz, it's a quite straightforward case of xenophobia - we English require EVERYBODY to speak like us, otherwise we simply pretend not to understand them. Have you never noticed how we shout at you? - ancient truism for us English ... The natives will understand if you shout at them loud enough. Mr. Green Joker

The above truism about shouting louder to make the natives understand does NOT apply where Glaswegians are concerned - they can't understand anybody else and nobody else can understand them. Confused

Lutz, your solution of changing the TT voice in order to get YOUR accent understood is intriguing. Just where did that idea come from? Change the mouth so that the ears work? I'm lost!

Serves me right, I expect. I downloaded a supposed manual and went to read it tonight, only to discover it was simply a sales brochure. Rolling Eyes
