Hello everyone,
I'm new to the whole GPS navigation world. I just bought my first ever GPS device Nuvi 310 from amazon and it will arrive on Monday (I hope).
Do i need to download anything/ update maps or software?
Any advice and tips on making full use of Nuvi 310 is highly appreciated.
Thank you |

Got mine a couple of months ago.
You should get a 3 months free trial period for Garmin's camera database. Use that as it's free (you can then take advantage of PGPS database once this has expired. Only a few squids!)
All i have is the POI loader and some of the 1000s of POI from this sites database. Very handy if you cant find anything that comes with the unit. |

Software for the Nuvi 310 can be found at CLICK HERE
Be aware that loading too many POIs (257 categories) onto a nuvi 310 will render it un-bootable if it is running software prior to 3.90. If the unit you get come with an earlier version than 3.90 then you can download the free upgrade from the site above.
Taken from the PGPSW POI download page
Quote: | Special Note to nuvi users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 257 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! It is advisable to install the POIs onto a separate SD Card so if you do have problems then you can remove the poi.gpi file from the memory card from a separate card reader.
LATEST:
This issue has been resolved with version 3.90 of the firmware for nuvi 310 and 360. |
If you are not sure of how to do any of this, please ask here first. |

Nothing specific as it should come with the latest maps. V9 for UK/Europe
You may want to use WEBupdater from the GARMIN site, when you have your unit, to see if there are any firmware updates. For the 310 it is recommended that you have the latest release as there is a bug concerning the max number of POI categories you can load. This has been fixed with the latest s/w _________________ Phil |

The first thing to do is connect your 310 to a PC and backup all the files on the 310 to the PC. |
