I just got myself a TomTom 910. Can I power it from the car power socket without using the supplied mount ??

Unlike the original TomTom Go's, the 910 does not have an external power socket on it.

So I understand that use of the supplied mount is compulsory then ? Why are there other offerings on online shops offering different mounts for the Go 910 ? Or do these also have an integrated power socket ?

They are merely alternatives to the suction mount, they have to use the the TT bit which has electronics in it, which would be non-trival for 3rd parties to reproduce.

It's easy to remove the sucker bit. You then end up with something that props the TT upright.

There is a thread on how to take it apart somewhere around. Maybe someone has the URL.

That's exactly what I've done since some little scrote decided to remove my window mount via the passenger window Evil or Very Mad
It's easy now to just 'prop'it up on one of those 'sticky' mats on the dashboard, which also makes it easy to disconnect when you leave the car.
