|
|
I have recently started a new job and have provided with a TomTom Go 510. ( Had my own PDA with TomTom before ). After playing about with my new toy I released that it was a ' refurb ' model and I was unable to add my own POI's and most importantly PocketGPS's camera sites which I paid for. ( it was full of stuff ) After alot of uneducated playing around and deleting I have now managered to install all of the camera sites and a few ( 4 ) POI's of my choice.
Trouble is that I have deleted all of the POI's that came with the unit !! ( I now realise their use )
Please help....... how can I reinstall them? ( I did not make a back up before messing about ) |

Hi
First thing is to make a backup of the SD card - use Windows Explorer and copy everything form the card to a folder on your pc. Do make sure that in Tools-Folder Options-View that show hidden files and folders is enabled.
Next, go to www.recuva.com and download their free software. Use the software to explore your SD card and look for the deleted files. Then recover the files that it has found. Job done.
Please note there is a strong possibility that not all the poi files can be recovered. When you delete a file the space it occupied becomes available for the next file to use. If you delete a file then add a file the chances are that the new one will overwrite the old one. Also, do ensure that whatever poi file you recover there will be another one of them with a different file extension - one ending .OV2 (the poi database) and the other .BMP (the map icon) - don't worry if you can't recover the .BMP as the that is the icon file and it can be easily remade. [If this is a bit janet and john - sorry - but it will help others less able]
Alternatively, you can look at the poi download section on this site and see if there are any pois that suit your purpose here. _________________ RQ

RQ - if 'eclipse91' is talking about the TomTom-supplied POIs then they aren't ov2s at all. They are all in one file called poi.dat.
With a bit of luck that will be recoverable too. |

It is the TomTom POI's that I am trying to recover. Unfortunately I can not find poi.dat file using ' recuva ' . I like the program though. It may come of use in the future,so thaniks for that. I have tried all other dat files ( only 3 ) and none of them seem to recovery the POI's that I seek so I shall have to dowload the sites from the net.
Two POI that is vital to my job are shopping centres and car parks. After trying a few files I realise that some downloadable files are not comprehensive enough for me. Any good tips on places to look ? I travel all over the uk. Thanks in advance. _________________ WHERE HAVE THOSE KIDS COME FROM? |

I have found This free software to be excellent for recovering deleted files and lost drives.

Using ' pc inspector file recovery ' ( linked by oddsock ) I have found the deleted ' POI DAT file !!!!!! so thanks alot. I can not find a ' POI bmp file though. Will it be called anything else as the above program is excellent and has found alot of deleted stuff.
I have recovery the POI DAT file and placed it with all my pocket gps camera sites that work / show up fine on my maps. I have placed it in the uk_and_IE_plus_major_roads folder. Is that the right place to place it? _________________ WHERE HAVE THOSE KIDS COME FROM? |

Also thanks lost property for that site.
I have successively added their list of shopping centres after using the convert tool but feel the TomTom POI's were better as The Bull Ring is not even on the list. Don't get me wrong, I am very greatful for your help but would love to get the Tom Tom POI's back as I found them very comprehensive _________________ WHERE HAVE THOSE KIDS COME FROM? |

It generates it's own BMPs internally. _________________ Richard

OK thanks
Bit confused now as I have placed the POI.DAT file in the same place as the converted asc shopping centres file into ov2 from lost property's site and the shopping centres are showing fine but not the TomTom POI dat file. The only POI's showing up are ones that I have added ( 40 added in total as I like the camera sites split down into each diffent type ie 30 gatso or redlight ).
Any ideas? _________________ WHERE HAVE THOSE KIDS COME FROM? |

Probably that the poi.dat file is incomplete. The Undelete program tried to put together the pieces of the deleted file but if some of it is missing the software just won't want to know. _________________ Richard
