I ordered the Map of Western Europe v6.75.
Eventually The TomTom Home application found it and said i needed to download it.
It also said I needed to download the UK and Ireland map and also the France map!
I have previously purchased France and the latest UK. Are the downloads related to that purchase? I thought all new versions of the maps were at at price?
I downloaded them anyway even though my old UK map was apparently up-to-date.
My main question is...can I run on simply the Map of Western Europe v6.75? Do I need the France and UK maps? If thats the case why do they recommend I download them?
Also do you lose your favourites when you run off another map?
Many thanks!

You can just use the WE Map with nor problem except address look-ups will take longer as it is searching a Europe Wide database of cities rather than a single country.
You will need to re-do your settings and favourites for the new map though as these settings are map dependent. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks.
Is it capable of doing a post-code search of say, Spain, for example, then?
I know my old France map wasnt capable of Post Code searches.
On my list of downloads was a post code file but i assuimed it wasnt important and its gone now.
The postcodes are built into the maps arent they?

Only UK and Holland use PostCodes as we know them. For all other countries you have to use the address lookup. TomTom do not supply any post codes for other countries. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You shouldn't have thrown those files away! The postcodes file does come with the map, but is downloaded and installed as a seperate item. Sorry. See if you can download it again, or ring TomTom and say what happened (as it's not very clear what you are supposed to do with it).
To copy your favourites across, use these instructions: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=50044
(ignore the bit about renaming the file if you aren't moving from v5 to v6)
Alternatively, I wrote some tips for moving favourites and POIs from one map to another HERE |

Thanks folks.
I got the new map on, Western Europe. i just about fit it on my 1GB card.
I am still able to do a postcode search as I was before.
What was the Postcode file I ignored for then?

Thanks. I gotto say, TomTom make it complicated!! It took me pretty much a whole morning to sort out and downlaoding and uploading to the unit took forever!
I wonder where these files are now? I chose to ignore the Post Code update but didnt delete it! However, when i log in now to TomTom Home I get no remider of the updates!!
I do I retrieve them?

Every time you connect your device to your PC and start HOME (it may do it automatically depending on your settings) it will search for any updates, which you have not already downloaded. If you have downloaded something, it should not appear on the list. If you have chosen to ignore it previously, it should still be on the list and you can download it whenever. I don't think there is an option there to delete it. You either download it or leave it there.
AFAIK it remains in your account in cyberspace until you choose to download it. _________________ Tommo...
