HP 2210 with TomTom wired GPS

I've just bought the new HP micro keyboard:

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=108721&asource=105739

Everything is fine except that both TomTom and the keyboard driver want to poll the serial port. So only one can be active. If TomTom starts with the keyboard driver active, it complains "com1 not available" or somesuch.

The keyboard driver starts automatically after soft reset, and can be easily disabled by clearing the "enabled" checkbox. (except of course I forget...)

My question:

Does anyone know if it is possible (presumably by changing a registry setting) for TomTom to automatically grab the serial port for itself (ie dis-enable the keyboard driver) when Navigator is started up?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, how ever you see it) this is not possible. You may think of the other case where the TomTom driver is usurping the BT serial port. But it is generally considered BAD behaviour, not something to be encouraged.

I would even say that in your case the keyboard driver is the bad guy, because it locks the port even when no keyboard is present...

You can prevent the keyboard driver from loading automatically by adjusting the stuff in the \windows\startup folder. Maybe that's a better option?

Unfortunately there's no alternative to this, as there's no way to know what devices are and aren't available on a real serial port, unlike with Bluetooth, where the Bluetooth stack knows.

You can enable and disable the keyboard driver - I believe that setting persists. I leave the driver for my folding keyboard enabled all the time, as it's the only serial peripheral I use.
