|
|
Hi All,
Having sorted out the audi problem I had with my Nuvi 310, I ran Ashe's latest version of Camera Manager. I used the POI uploader, and now cannot use the unit. If I switch it on when plugged in, it gets to "loading maps" and hangs. If I reset, the same happens. If I unplug the unit from the power source, it switches off. If I start on battery power, it gets to "loading maps" and then turns off. Resetting has no effect, erasing all user data, has no effect. If I hold down the start button it goes into boot mode, but again, has no effect. The Nuvi is no longer visible when I plug it into my laptop. (XP). Before I phone Garmin tomoorow, have any of you any ideas?
Regards, Ian. |

i think that is just a case for the support team to be honest, i have the same version but its working fine with the Cam manager and POI loader, it can take a little while after loading maps sometimes after updating but only about 20 secs ? |

I've just had a brand new Nuvi 310 delivered as a replacement for my "frozen" Nuvi. Garmin have advised me not to use the Pocket GPS World Speed Camera Database or Ashes Camera Mnagaer until they can find out what caused the crash. |

Although I can understand Garmin's viewpoint (ignoring the fact they sell a competing camera database for which they want revenue) I don't believe anyone who has only installed the PGPSW speed camera database (directly, or via Ash's utility) has ever suffered from this problem - the problem is caused if you download the POIs and apply them, and then only (it appears) if you load too many POIs.
My Nuvi has, at times, had roughly 50,000 POIs loaded onto it without problem.
Can you confirm whether you only had the PGPSW camera database in your POI directory, or what else you had / have in there...? _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

I had the PGPSW camera database, the Garmin POI database from the MaFt site, and Ash's utility. I'm reluctant to install any of them again, as my Nuvi was rendered useless, and had to be replaced. I'm not sure what it was that resulted in the crash, but I await Garmin's response with interest. |

Hmm - that is interesting - you are the first person who I've personally heard of who didn't have the large POI database from this site loaded when your Nuvi died. Having said I've had over 50,000 POIs loaded, I haven't personally used Ash's utility alongside the new Category POI support, although I don't see how either could have impacted the other. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Swing,
In reply to your message on another thread (but regarding the exact same issue)
I don't know exactly how many POIs i had installed but i installed the PGPS points of interest when i got the unit a couple of weeks ago, then i downloaded them again monday night to get any updates. I had already installed the latest camera database that evening, and my nuvi was working fine after, but when i installed the POI database it went wrong.
I'm fairly new to this GPS stuff, so i hope this helps..
Posted my nuvi back today to the following address
Unit 5
Quadrangle
Abbey Park Industrial Estate
Ramsey
Hampshire
S051 9DL
But first you have to ring this number and obtain a reference number
08708501242. and dont forget to send the nuvi recorded delivery this cost me about £3.90.

I do not download POI files directly to the Nuvi. I have purchased a SD card and use POI Loader to download the POI files to the card.
When i turn on the Nuvi it detects the new POI file on the SD card and asks if i wish to copy the information to the Nuvi. I always say no and also touch the on screen box which says do not ask again (this stops the Nuvi from asking the same question every time it is switched on. Until a new POI file is detected).
Should a problem occur with my POIs, i can simply remove the SD card and run the Nuvi without the POI files loaded.
I also use this approach when downloading MP3 files.
I would also strongly suggest you backup all the files and folders from our Nuvi to your PC. I even burn my backups to CD. You will need to switch on, show hidden files in Explorer as one file is a hidden file. If anything should then happen to your Nuvi files, at least you will be able to restore them from your backup. |

Mike,
Have you had any feedback from Garmin on what caused the unit to crash? I've yet to hear a thing.
Regards, Ian. |

I have exactly the same problem with my second unit in two months. All I did was put the 24 speed camera files from here in a folder, added quite a few POI's from here also and used POI Loader to generate a file. It told me it had loaded them successfully. I disconnected my 660, and got the message "loading maps"and shutdown with no power attached or a loading maps staying on with power.
Exactly the same as the first one three weeks ago.
Returned that to Garmin through Halfords, got given another and the same thing again last night. There must be a fault somewhere here, why don't Garmin admit it? Is it a POI problem? I used their Loader from their own site.
Mine is with a "Halfords specialist" tonight who is going to try and sort out what has happened. If no joy, I am returning and getting a TomTom 910 in its place.
If I find out what has happened tomorrow, I will make a new thread on it because it sure is affecting lots of people. |
