Hi,
A question for you.
The Tom Tom ONE is basically a small computer that runs the Tom Tom application which reads their maps. But I see that the Speed Camera recording add on, from this site, has somehow tapped into the application and includes its own icon and records location etc. How's that done then? And more to the point is it a separate executable running within an operating system or just a macro or DLL function or similar?
I'm wondering about the possibilities of running a parallel application to display OS maps like Memory Map. Not trivial then
This could be in it's most simple form just a bitmap view of a previously selected OS map swapped in place of the Europe view backgrounds. This could be viewed when zoomed out and may be useful for walking. It's a bit dumb though and wouldn't be linked to GPS.
A more comlex form could be to select a map from an icon or menu (like the Speed Camera thing) and possibly link it to GPS??? With a bigger flash card the whole of the UK landranger series could be included (500Meg)
Ultimately to be able to overlay OS over the Tom Tom maps to the same scale would be best but it sounds too hard. Would be dead good though :D
I'm just trying to match the functionality of the latest HP palmtop with GPS, Tom Tom and Memory Map
Any thoughts? Tell me I'm mad I don't care |

All the add-ons were produced thanks to the availability of an SDK (Software Development Kit) from TomTom that allows such 3rd party utilities etc.
Sadly TomTom have now pulled the SDK. As it was version dependent, many apps will no longer work once upgraded to the next firmware release
There is an add-on that allows calibrated bitmaps to be displayed but it's far from perfect. See here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Take a look at http://web.tiscali.it/macri/Event_Logger/
Towards the bottom of the documentation are fairly extensive development notes. I'm not sure how much Event_Logger relies on the API and I haven't had time to dig into the notes, but at a glance, it seems like you may be able to do some shell scripting... |
