|
|
Nuvi 300 is recognised by PC when connected by USB (direct to socket, not to a hub) and I can open and view files using 'my computer' however POI Loader says 'no gps connected'. Have uninstalled POI loader, downloaded and reinstalled latest version, but with the same result. I don't think that it can be a USB connection fault as the computer is immediately recognising the Nuvi whenever I connect it, so the problem must be in the POI loader.
Any suggestions please? |

while it is connected to the pc it will be assigned a drive letter (eg F:\) - this should appear in a drop-down list when you load up poi loader

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the Nuvi is assigned the Drive letter F, in 'My Computer' when connected by USB, and I can open it by double clicking on this. However, POI Loader does not start automatically and when I start it manually, by clicking on the shortcut in my systray all I get is the POI introductory screen explaining its purpose and saying no GPS is connected, check that it is switched on, connected by USB, etc. There is no drop down menu and no other options, other than to minimise or close window, so I have no way of activating POI loader, which persists in refusing to recognise the connection. |

Yes. Downloaded POI loader version 2.3.0 from Garmin site yesterday and USB connections work fine with the GPS unit itself. (No driver updates shown for USBs on HP site. I am using a Compaq nx7000 notebook running XP Pro. Thanks for your continued help. |

More problems! Downloaded the updated POILoader and USB drivers, using your links, but when I tried to install them in each case I got the message C/Docs and Settings/ DP/Desktop/POILoader_241.exe is not a valid WIN32 application.
Similarly for the USB. I have tried this download using both Firefox and IE, but with the same result. The older version installed (to the same temporary location) without any problems.
Garmin Tech Support suggested changing the drive letter (F) for the Nuvi, however, since it is already being correctly recognised (as Nuvi) by my system when I connect the USB and it is only POILoader which fails to recognise it I don't see how this would help. |

you could try this as a workaround if you have a usb pen or other 'removable storage' device:
connect usb pen
run poi loader
select the usb pen's drive letter
install poi's to usb pen
copy the garmin/poi/poi.gpi file over to your nuvi in teh same relevent folder

Problem finally solved. Turned out to be a corrupted file in the download process. Thanks for all your long suffering help! |
