|
|
Hi All.
I have a Navman ICN530 and I would like to change the 'beep' alert when I come within range of a speed cam to a voice prompt alert. Is that at all possible? And if so does anyone have the instructions to do it?
Many thanks & kind regards,
John Prosser :D |

What version of smartst are you running as I don't think you can change the warning sound unless you are running Smartst v5
If you are running V5 see This thread. _________________ Dom

oops just checked mine and it's version 4.
When you open up your smartst program go to help and click the about button. Mine shows me I have Smart ST 2006 and after looking through the details it says "smart st desktop v.4.0.1.3"
[Long story] basically if you are running the right version, when you upload the cameras using the poi editor in smart st there is an option to choose a sound file to associate with the poi's, which in previous versions is not there. You can upgrade the software to v.4 but it will be at a cost.
Maybe you could just live with a mildly satisfactory BEEP? _________________ Dom

I downloaded voice files from the net, then connected my Navman to my computer and synched it with 'Mobile Device' to view the files on the Navman and changed the files that way. My wife did not like my efforts, so changed them all back again _________________ Gee-Pee

Well, 'change' is not quite the right word. Added would be more accurate. And then, I do have a N20 which enables you to choose between what sort of warning sound you use. I just downloaded a wave file from this site to my desktop and then just dragged and dropped it into the first folder of the device where the other wave files are.
I then used the SmartST desktop to select the new file to act as the default sound for the safety camera POIs. Never had a 530, so I wondered if it is possible to do the same? I therefore looked up the 530 manual and it has no mention of being able to select alternative sound warnings. Sorry
I think there was a thread on this subject last year sometime - I'll have a search around and see if I can find it and see if it is pertinent.
No need for another post, I have found the thread and it looks positive. Suggest you get in touch with the author - see
here
Hope it helps.

You could try your Smart Desktop and see if there is a free upgrade available. (SmartST: Setup: Check for Software updates) _________________ Gee-Pee

This question seems to come around every now and then.
The 530 uses the Windows CE 'default' sound; ie it is built into Windows CE.
I can't see how changing the voice files used for navigation will help with Speed Cam warnings (well I'm often wrong but at the moment I can't see how that would work!)
I devised a simple registry edit last year to alter the sound to anything you like. The downside is that the hack, which is actually very quick to do, will have to be repeated after a cold reset. Also Registry Workshop is only free for something like 30 days then you will have to pay to apply the hack. I did think there must be a way to backup the registry and restore it when required but I don't have a 530 anymore so I can't look into it.
See my post here.

Tried a search on this but can't seem to find an answer to my exact query, but this post is pretty close.
I normally use a Garmin i3 with the speed camera database loaded. As I approached a camera I got a "bing" from the i3 and then if remained over the limit it kept on "binging" to remind me!
My i3 has sadly gone to the great satnav graveyard in the sky and I have borrowed a Navman f20, which I must admit I do really like, but I can't get the reminder "binging", just the first one to tell me that I am approaching a camera.
Is this what I have to live with or is there a setting that I can't find? |
