Hi Avroy,

What do you want to use GPS for?
Do you just want to know your location, anywhere on the planet?
SatNav, where you’re guided on a route?

Any hand-held GPS reviver would work. I prefer the Garmin range. Have a look on their website for details of the different models.

Yes.

As long as the GPS receiver has line-of-sight of the sky you will get a good signal. If the GPS has SiRF III (or similar) then you may get a good signal inside a normal two storey house.

No, not for regular civilian models.

Normally – but best to check with manufacturer first.

Yes.

Depends on what you wish to use it for.

Yes, have a search in Google.

I’m afraid that I’m not that technical when it comes to GPS. Have a read of the Wikipedia explanation of GPS.

Normal civilian GPS units do not transmit. They only receive.

Possibly. If you have two SatNav units operating close together (i.e. within 0.50 metres) then you may encounter interference issues. However, you would need to experiment yourself.

The only "transmitting" done would be position information over a serial link to a computer etc - this is usually done with a repeat time of 1 second (depending on what is being transmitted.)
Although they don't do RF transmissions there is sufficient stray radiation from the internal electronics to cause some interference - be careful about positioning multiple units very close to each other (e.g. <5metres apart)
BTW the satellites transmit arount the 1.5Ghz range - see Wikipedia.org for more precise figures _________________ Phil
