At risk of starting a new topic I've noticed the following:

Miomap has problems with 7 digit postcode searching in some instances. It will take you to a picklist after entering the fifth digit in some instances. I thought that these instances were random until, by chance, I discovered that almost all (if not all) the problems happen when there is a postcode border: GU13 borders on GU51 (iirc) by a few yards or so.

Basically all the picklist problems with the UK map seem to present themselves when the postcode in question borders on a radically different postcode (leading digits wise).

Can I report this to Mitac? Yeah, here goes the dog with his old bone again.

Btw, I have an example of a problem whereby the Mio is completely incapable of performing a route to an address. 2 bugs coincide here. The first bug is the picklist postode bug; the second is the "same road name in a different district same town" bug. This bug, I think, demonstrates a real problem in Miomap and UK routing. I could be wrong of course and I suspect some clever person will solve the problem.

Still, the new 2007 maps are being marketed as UK postcode compliant (see the Mio website for coded marketing).

How do you report bugs in UK functionality to Mitac because, despite UK specific marketing, they appear to have no beta testing prog for UK users and no way of reporting bugs.

With a postcode entry, it's worth bearing in mind that Royal Mail occasionally change postcodes and the destination should be checked for accuracy.

The postcode entry and street address for my parent's house are about 100yards different - not a great deal, but only one will get you to the door. In this instance, the postcode is correct and the street address entry is wrong.

I once entered a postcode and the Mio gave me a destination a good couple of miles away from where I wanted to go...

...when I entered the postcode into an online database, this gave me the same location as the Mio.

A picklist may be Mio's way of trying to safeguard you if there's any doubt over the destination.

I put this down to the limitations of the TeleAtlas maps, postcode database and combination of the two - but there may be a more serious problem I haven't come across yet.

Should this problem be limited to a small number of postcodes, it's possible that a beta test programme may not have picked it up because I very much doubt that somebody would sit and enter every single postcode into a Mio to test its accuracy. Also, bearing in mind the number of Mio users in the UK and apparent lack of problems with postcodes, it may be the kind of thing that comes to light after release to the general public.

If you wanted to contact Mio, I would have thought their generation technical support contact may suffice. Alternatively, if you've previously contacted Mio and had a response, it might be worth contacting that person directly.

Mio don't go a bad job if you consider the amount of 'bugs' Microsoft software has when it's released to the general public - they seem to use the public as beta testers and a numbers of critical updates and patches soon follow.
