GPSlim 236 not found in device manager

Howdy folks,

I have a GPSlim 236 that has worked fine tethered to my laptop with the USB/serial cable until a couple of days ago. Now, my computer doesn't see the device at all -- not in the Device Manager (no virtual COM port is created, the only COM port present is the computer's built-in COM1), not in a GPSViewer scan, etc.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the Holux drivers, but to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is it visible via Bluetooth or do you not have that option?

I don't have that option on this computer, but it was visible via the USB cable on another system (a Mac) that had only basic GPS software -- nonetheless, on that system, it was able to link up and tell me my location with no problem. So it appears to be a problem with this specific computer. I know the USB port works because an external mouse connected to it works fine.
