Hi Guys! Im going to sound really thick so please bear with me, this is my first experience with sat nav. I've recently bought a sat nav system of ebay which is titled - "GPS Car Navigation, Speed Camera, SAT NAV TOMTOM,UK MAP" This product does not have a make (that i can see) but the speed camera database on its memory is a bit dated and needs updated. Can anyone please help me update the database?
|

if the map looks like it does in the screen shot then id say it was a rebadge garmin nuvi so you would need to get poi loader from the garmin site and upload the camera database through that _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Hmm, yes. Don't recognise it, the flip up aerial at the back certainly looks like Garmin, but the buttons on the right are a bit like Navman. It's certainly nothing to do with TomTom - that's just typical eBay mis-selling. Put a key-word in your title so that anyone searching for it comes up with your item, that is "a bit like it".
Not sure what to suggest next, can you connect it up to your PC and examine the files?
If so, report back with the full name (including the 3 letter extension after the dot) of one of the camera files that is already on it. That might help someone to get an idea of what you need to do next. It might need a bit of detective work or experimenting! |

The photos show a unit that has the Garmin Nuvi style interface (one picture is actually a Garmin Nuvi), also the text within the sales blurb does indicate the device will work with a GTM-12 RDS-TMC unit (again Garmin) - you might want to try installing the Garmin POILoader and see if the application finds the device when plugged in to the PC.
One thing for sure though - it is not a TomTom product, I have never seen one of these units though. - Mike |

That's all very odd. The pictures definitely show Garmin software and the reference to the TMC add-on is a Garmin unit. However I've never seen a Garmin like that nor one that runs on WINCE?
Does the software on your unit actually look like this:
Can you take some photos of the actual unit you have and email them to me? Front and rear shots with the software running? _________________ Darren Griffin |

to me it looks like a garmin nuvi in a box with some extra buttons on the side...
again, pictures of the actual unit would be an advantage...

Hi Guys - Thanks for all of your replies.
OK, The unit is identical to the one in the picture. Unfortunitely I cannot take any pictures, however from the rear, it is basically blank, apart from the retractable antena, some speaker holes, and the battery hatch which is powered by a DESAY battery? Im afraid i cannot link it directly to the PC, all 'correspondence' as such is done through a SD memory card (slot is at the bottom of the unit), and the only files that were preloaded on the memory card was the Maps.
Sorry cant be any more help guys! |

But does the software on screen look like the image above? Is there any Copyright or other pages on the system somewhere that gives us a clue as to the origin of the software? _________________ Darren Griffin |

The software is actually different - on mine the Zoom + and - is down the right hand side, all times, distances etc is down right hand side and the 'pointer' looks like a round target sign with a triangle on top.The only logos I can find anywhere are from the navigation pages which are -
Tele Atlas Maps and smart2go
There are no signs of any copyright in the manuals apart from -

Thanks, that answers the question. Your software is Smart2Go, see here.
However, the eBay seller is using images of a Garmin GPS's display and has TOMTOM in the title as well as the mention of an RDS/TMC receiver which is bogus, that doesn't inspire confidence in the seller at all as for a little extra you could have got a better solution from a retailer _________________ Darren Griffin |
