Nuvi 350 power issues

Greetings All, new poster here,

My wife's Nuvi is giving her fits. Seems like the only way to successfully charge the battery is through the usb conneted to the computer. When plugged in to wall outlet, unit indicates it is charging, but will not take a full charge. When plugged into car charger, message appears on screen, something about an external accessory, does not charge. This problem cropped up while on vacation (of course), and rendered the unit unusable. Since we did not have adequate maps, we had to buy another gps (Streetpilot c340) as a backup. Any ideas?
