|
|
When I bought my TomTom One it was suggested to me by the retailer to buy the speed camera database as well for £20. As a result, I don't want to buy it again from PocketGPSWorld but all the advice here on installing and the various settings seem to start with this. For example, I cannot change the warning settings in the preferences section but it appears I can if I download it through this website.
My unit does warn me of speed cameras, it's just that I cannot seem to make any changes to the standard settings.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Unfortunataly you are right. The TomTom supplied one is less flexible than the one from here. You cannot change either the alert sound OR the warning distance (it's set the same for all speeds, which is daft).
Far more importantly, though... the TomTom one is far less comlete than the one from here and is updated far less regularily.
You can try the one from here for a month for just £2 if you want to compare them. |

Ye Gods and little fishes!! Surely they're not on a commission? Please tell us the name of the shop so that we can all avoid it like the plague. That was REALLY dud advice. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the replies - I knew it! So annoying, and guess what, the retailer was Currys Digital (or Dixons as I like to think of them). I thought it odd that their advice might be even close to accurate - I just wish I'd found this place beforehand.
You are right about the database not being that up to date either - I past two cameras in West London yesterday that were not on the database. |

Even if you just did a one-off install of the ones from here for £2 and never updated them again, they would probably still be better than the TomTom ones.
If you fancy an argument, you could try telling Currys that it isn't fit for purpose and you'd like your money back... |

Just a couple of points ...
1. Have you actually done an update of the TT cameras yet? It would be "acceptable" for them to be out of date out of the box because they've been there since initial installation. So it needs testing to see if their update, which MUST be available as soon as you've paid the £20, is an improvement. It might be interesting too to get Curry's reaction if you did go back to complain and see whether they would do the update for you. Presumably they won't, telling you that you have to do it on your own PC. I'd be tempted to take my wireless laptop in and see about using their broadband to do it. We'd find out then how competent they are!!
2. At the end of the day, when you find the database from here is better, make sure you do NOT have both databases on your device. _________________ Dennis
