|
|
I want to buy a speed camera warning system, and am drawn to a pocket PC / TomTom solution - but can't find an answer to a simple query - hopefully someone out there can help.
Does TomTom (and the Speed Camera POI) work in a "passive" mode - ie, without setting a route - so I could simply launch Navigator and POI, and it would track my journey and alert me if any cameras were ahead?.
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. |

Thedon,
The Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database POI is a free and very good list of speed cameras on mainland UK. The Pocket GPS World team compiles it with input from forum members. However it is probably not as an exhaustive list as subscription services, as they can afford to survey camera sites. The more people that use it and pass updates back to the team, the better it gets!
However on it’s own you need to keep an eye on your PDA screen at all times. If you get some software like GPSAssist, POI-Warner or CheckPOInt then you will get advance warnings.
I use and would recommend CheckPOInt. You’ll see from my signature that I use CheckPOInt 3.2.0.0 but I’d recommend version 2.0.2, which can be downloaded from here. CheckPOInt is freeware and the 2.0.2 version has less “clutter” and is less hassle in my opinion than the 3.2.0.0 version.

Cheers folks - I've ordered my Ipaq 2210 and tomtom bluetooth already - sounds like it's just the ticket (no pun intended!). |
