Glad to help Karl, at least your DS charger didn't have a built-in voltage converter to worry about. :D :D _________________ TomTom Go 60

Drive-Smart sold on Ebay for £102 + £20 p+p. Obviously the buyer hadn't been keeping up to date with events. 8) |

There is a DS at £69 and PM at £45 tonight (still going) if they keep the updates going it is still a good buy.
The last database update is 10/02/07, so there is still hope, if that is the last update, i will convert to pocket GPS - so there is still life yet.
I still say having two GPS speed camera locators is better than one, as nobody has proven one unit can warn on all cameras. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Hi Karl,
Mobilehacker posted it on the DS forum, I thought it was a possible useful bit of info for the future so i printed it.
I'll type it as quoted, but haven't yet tried it.
Referring to a query regarding no trust in DS database, quote - "Also nothing stopping you loading other databases in the unit Eg pocketgpsworld.com database can be loaded.........This can be used along side DS one. To be honest you could try reflashing the DS I think this will delete the DS database. Then you could load the Pocketgps database. (under the extra database section).
On the pocketgps site you need the database as a CSV file."
Nuttynurse then asked if quote - "What happens if both main and supplementary databases hold the same locations, does this cause any conflict or does the DS take presidence?"
Mobilehacker, quote - "Not tried it with 2 databases with the same locations!".........No issues reloading the firmware to delete the original database, to test it with pocketgps database as you are able to restore the DS to its genuine state easily.".........
1) You do not need to add another database it was just a suggestion for reducing the risk of a camera not being in the DS database.
2) The database is built by DS using various forms of information. One of them been user submitted info.
3) No databases are perfect.
4) List the database faults so the can be amended.
5) The local authorities do not have to produce an accurate database. (This was answer for question by eononly)
6) As DS not answering the telephone I can't help you.
Mobilehacker went on to say, quote - In DS defence (no i do not work for them) they have a good database. ALL manufacturers have missing locations.
DS openly collect camera information from its users, others download your saved locations then add them to the database........
So if you are looking for the perfect system you are wasting your time searching.
PS If you report an unknown camera to Pocketgps you get life time subscription. (In answer to eononly referring to DS database is free and all others charge).
I would like to add that although i don't know of the where abouts of Mobilehacker I know that Jaskel is on this forum and if somebody wishes to trawl through the registered users maybe he could have a PM sent, he was very knowledgeable on DS.
At this stage not knowing of DS's whereabouts, it might be useful if we all saved the software updates and other relevant files on the (at the moment) still going web site - incase of a rainy day.
I know that other forum members here can also help. _________________ TomTom Go 60

ATTENTION ALL EX DRIVESMART OWNERS.
Not sure if the update is any good but they have a new one HERE today.
There must still be some life in there still, would be interesting if we could see where the updates are. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Hi GJF
The update you refer to has now been removed again and is back to the 010207_hex update. Don't know if this is a temporary cliche so beware if you have already updated 8) |

Thats weird Nuttynurse, 8O i'm still seeing 230207 (as at the time of this log), don't know what they are up to.
As you say, must be careful, i always keep the old database - just in case. _________________ TomTom Go 60

I'm still only seeing the 010207.hex database either by going through your link or by going direct to their support page. I have flushed out my internet connection, favourites and history and still get the same, so don't know. 8) |

Hi,
I found your email through pocket gps, I and another of my friends at work both use a DriveSmart and we are a bit concerned at the demise of the forum. You appear to be more in the know than most as to what has happened to the forum and I was wandering if you could help out with a quick question. I am after the software mentioned in the manual called "DriveSmart_CSV_refine" do you have a copy or do you know where it can be downloaded?
Also DriveSmart are not answering their emails, does this mean they are
going to stop issuing software and data base updates? If this is the case we are working within the electronics industry and would like to look at the
possibility of working on the database if we could find out more information on the software used to produce the hex files.
If you have any information that may help or can point me in the direction
of the CSV file that would be great, also on the old forum site there was a
posting with the camera types in the user defined poi's, do you have a list
of such you could give me.
Sorry for being so direct but sometimes it's the only way to benefit a
number of people.
Best Regards
Carl Morris

I have replied to this guy but unable to help him very much as I don't have a backup of the "CSV_Refine" he is seeking. Perhaps one of you would like to respond to his call also. 8) |

It looks as if a past DS forum member was asking for the "DriveSmart_CSV_refine" file last year LOOK HERE but as far as I can see there was no reply. _________________ TomTom Go 60
