Where is the best place to position the TMC aerial to get the best reception.
Is the best orientation vertical, horizontal or a bit of both.
Centre of the screen or to the side?
Let me know what works best for you.

I have only had my nuvi 660 4 days so still experimenting but vertical would be the normal wisdom here in the UK. I have a VW Bora (same as Golf as far as electrics are concerned) and I intend to mount the whole of the TMC unit in/under the dash on the drivers side and connect the aerial lead into the card radio feed leaving the plug for the screen mount coming up the gap between the driver side dash and the door /door frame. The reason I moved from my PDA based TT6 solution was to tidy up the inside of the car.
Anyway (back on topic) with the lead attached vertically on the windscreen near to the driver side frame it get a green light in most of the areas of North Cheshire I have driven around except for where I live - which has poor reception of anything (low down in the countryside). Unfortunately I upgraded the TMC s/w to the latest version just after getting the unit and seem to have fallen foul of the 'only seeing Classic FM' problem described elsewhere in these forums - so I can't comment on how useful it is. All I will say is that the TMS solution supplied with teh 660 detracts from the elegance of the 660 itself _________________ Phil |

The green lights are on the cigarette charger. The light nearest to the tip of the charger is lit when the charger is plugged in. The second green light is lit when the unit is supposedly receiving traffic info, although I have found this to be lit and still not showing any traffic info on the 660. |

The TMC unit that came in the 660 box is the GTM 21. It has a 12 power jack leading to the unit which has a single strand aerial wire with two suckers and a plug to attach it to the windscreen mount - it won't plug into the nuvi directly. It powers the nuvi.
The power jack has two LEDs. One is to show power is on and the other is multifunction. If RED it means loss of signal; if YELLOW it means scanning/waiting; if GREEN it means signal being received. Most of the time I get GREEN - it takes 20-30 secs from start up to get to this stage. _________________ Phil |

You didn't upgrade to the latest version (like I did) did you?
I get the same problem - it locks onto Classic FM (101.10 around here). the stats say it is receiving messages - but nothing appears. Apparently Garmin are looking into it _________________ Phil |

I suspect i have upgraded to the latest version using the webupdater.
I do occassionaly get Tm-Info or TM tm, do either of these work?
Signal reception in Staffordshire is not too great, did get a signal once when sitting at east midlands airport. Might go back and see if I can get it again. |

TM TM is the best choice while we have the Classic FM problem. It is not 100% but seems to avoid Classic FM most of the time. However, since the update it also seems more difficult to lock onto the RAC / Trafficmaster signal. |

I can only get TM-Info around here at present so no TMC at present - will keep trying until Garmin get it fixed! _________________ Phil |

I've had the same problem. Rang Garmin UK on Friday and they said they had the Garmin boffins working on it. They took my email address to let me know when the fix is released. They reckon an update will be available sometime this week!!
Garmin said the the GTM21 cannot be downgraded and therefore the next change will be an update specifically for the GTM21/20.
Basically a lesson learned, any GTM updates are worth checking this forum first. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 660 |

Which site do you expect this update to be posted on, the UK or USA one? |

I did ask this and he said both.
I actually feel it will just appear using the webupdater. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 660 |
