PostPosted: Sat Jan 13, 2007 8:50 pm    Post subject: Can a map be deleted by TT Reply with quote

I downloaded the new UK map for my TT Classic at the special price on Dec 28th. I have just received an email saying, "We regret to have to inform you that your order has been cancelled. We did not receive a positive authorization of your payment for order number ..."

I have no idea why it was not paid by my visa. Never happened before. After downloading the map I put it on a new SD card and it has worked fine. Will it have a time limit so it will now suddenly stop working?

The email has given me no opportunity to try and pay again. It referred me to 'My Orders' on the TT site where it says the status has 'expired'. So if I reorder the map, presumably will be at the higher price.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I can't see that there is any way to "delete" your map, all they could do is stop you re-activating it if you ever changed the SD card.
Carry on using it and see what happens....

I'd be prepared to argue that! Wink

The copy was released by the owner: tomtom. If they released it before checking that payment was valid, they have a problem. But it's up to them to resolve it.

I wouldn't think that the user has a problem unless he refuses to agree to stop using the map, once tomtom have made a request to him to stop.

Always assuming that there was no intent to do anything naughty on the buyer's part - and if he had, he wouldn't be likely to broadcast it in public!

Like I said I cannot understand why payment did not get authorised. I've never had a problem before and use my card regulary. In their email they could have asked for payment or for me to stop using. Again I don't know why - perhaps I will get a letter from them. They could have contacted me a week ago asking for instructions as to whether I wish to 're-purchase' or cancel etc. What would be annoying is that they insist on full payment rather than the special offer rate. I did nothing wrong. All I can think is that the Visa company messed up somehow or TT instructions to them were corrupted. I'll continue using until they make contact - if they ever do.

I'm confused how the copy protection works with tomtom. I too downloaded some maps over Christmas, I was really surprised not to have been asked for a product code. (and before I get lynched, I ask out of curiosty, I'm not interested in iffy copies from mates mate down the pub).

Re the quote above, I thought it was perfectly fine to make a copy of your SD card, and use its contents to upload to another card.

For the same reasons that sgould has already said.

If this has been an error caused by Visa, it would be worthwhile explaining the problem to them and seeing if you can reclaim the difference from them.

Add me to this train of thought, too.

Not until they make such a statement to the customer, who bought in good faith and offered payment, no.

No to this part.

Upon realizing payment had not been received, do you not think TomTom have exercised their right to terminate the license agreement and revoke the activation code

I went to buy fuel a few years ago, so filled up and went to pay. My method of payment (Barclaycard) was refused, although it was advertised as a valid method of payment. I didn't have any other method and was about to tell them that I'd have to go home to get cash when I was advised by the person behind me in the queue, a policeman, that as I'd offered legal payment which had been refused, I could quite legally leave with the goods and not return with another means to pay.

sifi,

Did you ever recieve a payment conformation email when you purchased your maps?, I did, below are its contents:-

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXXX,

We have received a positive authorization of your payment made for order number XXXXXXXXXX.

If you want to check the status of your order please do not reply to this e-mail.
Instead visit http://support.tomtom.com/uk Go to My TomTom in the column on the left hand side.
Insert your e-mail address and password.

Choose Orders and you will find a list of the orders you placed in the TomTom mail-order store.
When you double click the order number you can view all details of that order.

Kind Regards,
TomTom Mail-order department
