|
|
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could assist me, I recently purchased a StreetPilot C510 and was quite impressed. However it now reports 'No detailed maps found that support routing. The Streetpilot cannot be used without them'.
Before I return the unit to the supplier for a refund, could anyone assist me in resolving this problem?
Many thanks

Hi Kirk,
The same thing happened me. Mine is the so called Deluxe model supplied with the City Navigator Europe disk. I could see the map file was on the C510 if I hooked it up to a computer but it gave the same error message as yours on start up. One solution was to upload a new map from the disk provided but a better solution was to create an unlock file on the unit which allowed me to use the preloaded maps. That was a simple as taking the unlock code provided on the yellow card in the box and typing this into a text file, there are 25 characters and no spaces. I saved the text file in the Garmin folder on the unit with the same name as the big map file and gave it the file extension .unl
map file name = gmapprom.img
license file name = gmapprom.unl
This solved my problem. Curiously the preloaded UK and Ireland map file is considerable larger than the same maps loaded from the City Navigator disk. I assume there is more data but do not know if this is the case.
Hope this helps.
Patrick. |

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I didnt get the deluxe version so didnt have a CD!
I tried creating a text file in notepad using the serial number from the yellow card and then saving it to /garmin/ on the C510, however I still get the same message when the unit is switched on. I have tried creating the text file in upper and lower case characters however this didnt resolve the problem.
I can see a return to the supplier coming on!
Thanks again.

It is a pity that did not work. I used all lower case. My yellow card has three numbers on it. A serial number, a registration code and an unlock code. The unlock code has 25 characters printed in 5 blocks of 5 characters separated with dashes. I typed it into the unlock file as 25 contiguous characters, no spaces and no dashes. If this is what you have tried then you may well be on the way back to the supplier. I have to admit I was quite surprised when it worked for me as I had been experimenting with various solutions. I did not want to have to return the unit. |

Thanks for your assistance Patrick, I think a telephone call to Garmin on Monday will be my first port of call.
Thanks again.

Hi humphrks !
I am actually having the same problem as you have. I have also a "normal" c510 (no deluse version), and unfortunately I cannot do anything with this error message ! As I have seen on the forum, it is because of something wrong into the preloaded map...
Please let me know if you have more news after calling the Garmin support team.
Thanks,
JP |
