|
|
I want to buy the City Navigator NT DVD for North America and then I guess I need an SD card to copy this onto (for my nuvi 660). How do I know what sized SD card I'll need? I can't find this basic info on the Garmin website? I believe that the 660 has 700Mb free already after the preloaded stuff... will that be useful?
Thanks!! |

Hi,
Have you browsed this thread?
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=49916
It's concerns the same sort of thing on I3, apart from the card size. As I understand it, you can get a small number of states (up to 5 or so?) on an SD card - I have been told not to go above 512MB anyway. Let me know how you get on if you buy the City Navigator. _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006

The Nuvi can takes cards up to 2 or 4 Gb (4Gb cards are less guaranteed to work).
I think the 660's internal memory is about 2Gb total. However, the format of the built in maps is more compressed than the MapSource generated maps, so you may need more than 2Gb for the whole of the US (if you really need the whole of the US loaded all the time) |

Thanks for the replies... Unfortunately I didn't find the answer to my questions still - how much space is needed for the City Navigator NT North America V8 maps? It seems pretty dumb by Garmin not to publish that information!! How could I possibly know what card to get? Also, can I put some of the content onto the 660's internal storage, and split the rest onto an SD? |

Thanks for the link.. However, that's actually for City Navigator, not City Navigator NT. As I understand it, the main point between NT and non-NT is the amount of compression and therefore the sizes won't be the same. However, I guess it would be roughly similar - probably a 2Gb SD Card would do the trick.... |
