|
|
Can anybody please tell me what the pin out and voltage / power requirements are on the Tom Tom ONE mini USB connection?
I intend to buy a cheap car charger to take apart (or PC USB lead) and permanently wire into my car so I don't have an untidy lead dangling about.
There are some cheap ones on ebay which describe themselves as "Tom Tom compatable" and some, more expensive ones, that say "Tom Tom approved". I'm not sure if the mini USB is a universal standard or if Tom Tom have a unique variation on the theme i.e. a different voltage regulated by the cigarette lighter adapter.
I can make my own regulator, if needs be but need to confirm the power feed specification limits. Thanks. |

Think THIS PAGE might be what you're after.
YOu definitely do need to have a regulator circuit to reduce the vehicle 12V down to 5V for all TomToms. |

you could also plug the tom tom charger into an extension cable and cut of the extension cable plug and then wire that end into the car supply ...thi swill give you the option to remove the tom tom charger cable if necessary.. _________________ *************************** |

I think this is a related question, rather than the same:
Can the Go/One be charged by using a USB cable to my PC, in the same way that my mobile phone can be charged?

Thanks - of course it's 5V isn't it! I was forgetting the USB cable to PC so the USB interface at the TOM TOM is standard and therefore any generic charger should do. |

I think the other and earlier TOM TOMs are a different power connector so perhaps they don't take charge through their USB... but then again they might. |

You're right...ONLY the One v2 a.k.a "New edition" will charge via USB. |
