Hi,
have used my Mio P350 for a couple of weeks now, including with Memory-Map out on the Scottish hills. Two related problems have raised there head. The on/off switch operates too easily. I can take the Mio out of my pocket only to discover it has been switching itself on and off and I have used a significant amount of battery power before I really want to use the PDA/GPS. I have set it to switch off if not used in a minute but it seems to be a problem with the design. The other factor is that the battery life seems to be nothing like the claimed 8 hours, more like 4! Any answers or solutions. Are there cases which would protect the on/off switch from accidental operation? Is there a software solution? Am I doing something stupid?

In Settings you can set the auto-lock to on and set a password or 4 digit code.

If code not entered within 5 seconds of switching on, it will switch off automatically.

i.e. If it does switch on in a pocket or bag you'll only use 5 seconds of power. :D

It does mean of course you have to enter your code each time you switch it on.

You'll also find ActiveSync will always start running in the background, even if you haven't used it. You can stop that by carrying out the following.

Quote:
Start your P350.
Go to Start – Programs – Activesync.
Tap on Menu then Add Server Source’
Enter 1, 1, 1, 1 as the server.
User a
Password b
Domain c
Next uncheck the boxes
End.

Now go back to Menu – Schedule and use the two sliders to select each as Manual
OK

Now go to Activesync - Options, where you can delete the Server you’ve just added. It will now keep the Manual settings.

You will still be able to use Activesync in the normal way but you’ll find it no longer auto-starts when it’s left alone, thereby saving some battery power.

Mio recommend a battery ‘top-up’ at least once per week
