Hi,

I'm relatively new to the GPS world so if yiu can help me I would be very greatful. I am a programmer and I am trying to find out how to construct and send NMEA query sentences to the GPS Receiver through a serial port. I know this must be possible as the GPSInfo program and WinFast Navigator both allow enabling and disabling of NMEA sentences.

If anyone could help me with this it would be great. I have already been in contact with Haicom themselves but they must not have understood my request as they kept on sending back programs. All I want is the processes and sentence structures to send to the receiver.

Thanks
Anson

Anson,

this http://www.walterpiechulla.de/nmea0183.html may give you an initial read. After that it's pretty much up to the chipset that you want to control. What data do you want to transfer to the receiver? Just reprogram it or set the GPS position correction?

Thanks for the response lbendlin. I had a quick look at the link you provided. What I need to be able to do is send Serial Messages to the GPS receiver at the start of my program to enable only the GGA and VTG NMEA strings once per second and disable all the other strings. I believe that it must be possible as I have seen similar examples for other receivers but finding the syntax for the Haicom has been near impossible. Even after reading their manual and contacting them by email, Haicom have been no help to me. Thanks Again lbendlin.

I know it's an old thread - but it's probably worth a reply for reference.

The configuration asked for involves standard SiRF commands - the best thing to do is Google for SiRF messages PDF which will dig up the documentation.
