|
|
Apologies if this is an old question... I use the batteries mostly because the voice promps are much too early with the 12v lead. Is there something I haven't found that I need to set up manually for the different voltage? I notice she shouts a lot when fed 12v too...
I have software version 3.10 and Audio version 2.50
Thanks chaps |

The cig lighter plug drops the voltage from 12V so you are not feeding 12V into the i3. The difference in voltage from batt supply to car supply should not alter the functionality of the device, are you 100% sure of this "difference" - Mike |

I usually use my I3 on rechargeable batteries, but on the odd occasion I've used the 12 volt lead, I think the volume goes up as well; also, I think I get less lock-ups/screen freezes if the batteries are freshly charged. _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006

Screen brightness and volume are reduced on batteries (I had always assumed to preserve power), I haven't noticed any other differences. I'm pretty sure that the voice prompts for turnings vary depending on the speed rating for the road, this might be what you're noticing. You get prompts nearer the turn around town as it's assumed you're going slower and also that the density of turnings will probably be higher so a later warning is beneficial. _________________ Chas

Thanks for your reply bumpkin, I forgot to say that the written screen prompts are perfect on both power suppies, only the voice promps on 12v seem a bit off. |

I think it's more that as your rechargable batteries are only 1.2v each, 4 batteries = 4.8v not 6 and this causes the voice prompts to come too late. Try using 4 fresh Duracell to see if there is a difference.
(I've assumed you use 4 x re-chargeable). _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

i3 takes two AA batteries, not four. |

Thinking of one of my cameras.
So it's 2 x 1.2v = 2.4, whereas alkaline are 2 x 1.5 = 3v. Try TWO fresh Duracell.
My camera flash always gave up after about 10 flashes on rechargeable but Duracell had no problems. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

On the i3 you have a specific setting to inform the unit what type of battery you are using:
Settings/ System/ Battery Type in this menu are the two types Alkaline or NiMH make sure you have this selected to the correct value to avoid premature low battery warnings.
Lost Property, go out and treat yourself to some high power NiMH rechargeable, you can get AA NiMH batteries with a capacity over 2600mA/Hr - good for a few hundred flashes even with a powerful gun, and considerably cheaper in use! - Mike |

| Thanks for that Mike. I tend to use my digital camera for nearly everything nowadays, although the flash is only good for around 15 feet, less than half the distance of my gun, it rarely gives a poor result and on the odd occasions it does I use One Step Photo Fix in Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9.
2600mA/Hr eh? It just shows you how long since I purchased rechargeables. :P But worth remembering if I sweep the cobwebs off my 35mm Canon AE1. (it will be it's 25th Birthday next year). _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

If you do purchase high power capacity cells treat them with respect NEVER put them in you pocket with change/ keys - they gennerate significant heat (read burn) if shorted out - been there, not nice, invest in a small compartmented plastic box to house the cells in a safe way - Mike |

I WOULDN'T ADVISE ANYONE TRYING IT!!! _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
