I've owned my ICN530 for about 4 months now and am generally happy with the hardware.

My problem with it at the moment is that it seems to insist on sending me via some "questionable" routes. It seems to like sending me down small rural roads (A303 from Bath to Exeter anyone??), even though I thought I had it configured to use motorways as much as possible.

What configurations have people found work best to get some decent routing out of the thing?

My preferences:
Route Type: Quickest (left most setting)
Preference for Motorway: More often (right most setting)
Preference for urban roads: In the middle

Anyone found anything better than the default config?

I recall a post where someone was complaining that the iCN routed them miles out of the way to stay on motorways. Hmmmmm.......

If you have read any of my posts you will know I beleive that this technology is not ready for the mass consumer market. The problem the expectation you have and the reality of what can be delivered is far apart.

You won't see a soloution to your problems for at least 2-3 years, and I predict longer. There is too much effort being put into getting you to buy one of these things with the 'dodgy' technology, and not enough into getting the technoloy improved. I am almost certain the final solution will be internet server based with thin client in the car. Theres just too many variables that change too often for a stand alone system to work well.

In the mean time, preview your route, and if you don't like it use avoid areas and waypoints to get it right. Usually one or two is all thats required.

I had those sort of problems, but had mine set to shortest route. I now have it set around the middle of the settings and use a little discretion, it'll alway re-route if you don't do as it wants.
