Funilly enough I have just through the same exercise.
After the latest 6.15 software update I had to remove all voices except one to get enough room for the upgrade.
After reading the many articles on here for advice I have successfully migrated my data on the original to a new, larger SD card.
I purchased a Kingston 512MB 50x card from amazon.co.uk, along with a Sandisk 12 in one card reader.
I copied the entire contents of the TomTom card to a folder on my PC and duly copies the contents of the folder back to the new card.
I can confirm that all is well and all functions are identical to before.
I know that I could have used the TomTom as a card reader but I have seen some posts where a blank card can cause the TomTom to write a new config file that is different to the one required.
I wonder if I can defrag the new card for better response times ? Just a thought. _________________ DashCam:

TT Ones come with a 128Mb SD card with GB map.
Depending on what you want to add you'll need a 256Mb minimum for GB Plus major roads of Europe, 512Mb for most of the European maps, 1Gb for USA or 2Gb for full Western Europe.
If you're going to a 1Gb or more you should ensure you upgrade your firmware/application to v6.150 via TomTomHome. |

It is much better to Copy the Card to the PC, then Re-Format the Card and finally Copy the Files back again. Each File will than be in one contiguous Block on the SD Card. _________________ Richard

OK - just wondered.
I have copied the PC contents to a blank card that was already formatted to FAT standard so hopefully the data is in one block as you stated.
I suppose I could let Diskeeper loose on an analyse process only and see what it comes up with. _________________ DashCam:

Hi,
I'm a VERY newbie as well ... with a spare 512mb card ... did the same copied etc etc BUT I am now being asked for an activation code for the map (which I have obtained) but I am unable to enter correctly as I have no provision for a 'space' on the TT keyboard - Any ideas? Or are these dedicated SD cards??
TIA |

If I remember correctly, just enter the numbers without spaces... |

Did you Format the SD Card before Copying TT Files back?
If not there could be some old, other, Files on there.
If you did Format it, did you use FAT16?
When you Copied the Original Files did you have the Option to Show Hidden Files ticked, in Windows Folder Options? _________________ Richard

Yes - Card was Fat32 - ALL files removed - and fomatted as FAT (as opposed to FAT 32) so a completely clean formatted card.
Yes Hidden files are ticked and ALL files copied over. When this is done the new 512 card does work BUT .. I am asked for an activation code (which I have) but cannot activate as the TT keyboard has no space bar. I can 'activate' it using the virtual icon and my laptop keyboard, (virtual icon on my desktop freezes - subject of another post) and the activation is accepted .... close down virtual, close down device, changes are copied to card etc.
Next time I wind it up with that card it wants activating again .. *%$^£"$!^ 8O [/quote] |
