BT74R new to this

Please bear with me on this one, I have purchased a BT74R and have been trying to pair this device to my 6680, I have located the device and the 6680 states that connectivity is complete.
the only thing is that the Blue BT light on the GPS receiver remains on continuously instead of blinking once a sec, also TOM TOM shows no GPS device.
Any ideas

Please have a thought about my problems with this unit, its either me being totally thick or the unit is cream crackerd.
