Hi All,
Just downloaded the latest GPSR speed camera file and it loads into Mapsource as normal. I can select it as a map ok along with other Garmin maps.
My problem is i cannot see it as an overlay on Mapsource or my Quest (Mk 1). Within mapsource I can only select either the pocket GPS camera map or the city select map! (I don't get the transparent overview)
Any Help would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Biggbiker, welcome to the forum :D

Firstly, Mapsource is not capable of displaying one map transparently over another. This is a limitation of Mapsource, but its not actually a huge problem because the good news is that your Quest GPS can do this.

What you need to do is select both the camera map *and* your normal City Select maps, then send both to your Quest together. There are some more detailed instructions in this thread.

Let us know how you get on...

MapSource
You can view the same detail as the overlay on Mapsource if you download the .gpx database file!
I can view 10013 locations on CityNavigator v8, CitySelect v5 , MetroGuide v8 and the 'overlay' just with a quick dropdown box in MapSource.
This would seem to give you what you want!

As for transferring the 'overlay' to a unit, my iQue would require me to rebuild my mapsets [time consuming] each time the overlay was updated -- if the Mapset and Overlay were on the same SD card. So the my Overlay goes to 'internal' memory and the maps to SD card.
I have no knowlege of your unit, but be aware that some units will require that the maps and overlay will be seperated.

My 60CSx has no need of the overlay.

Hi Wired,
Many thanks for your response.
OK, didn't realise mapsource could only display one map and not the overlay too. As you say no big deal........... and I can view either map within Mapsouce OK (Speed camera data is Fine).
All maps seected including speed camera (UK) and sent to the quest. (No problems no errors, fine.
Problem is I still cant see the cameras!*&!?
On the Quest, under settings - Map Info - i can see both maps and have both tick boxes highlighted.
Even with just the Euro Poc map selected the quest won't display any cameras?
Any suggestions??
Best Wishes,
Gary Confused

How many Maptiles did you select for the Overlay?

When you select areas of mapping software to transfer from MapSource to a Garmin unit, you select 'maptiles'. UK is 18 maptiles on CityNavigator v8 and 292 in CitySelect v5.

When you transferred the overlay from MapSource to the unit how many maptiles did you select? If you select one maptile of the overlay it will not work! There are two!

Strumble,
Ok, 118 in total for the UK and speed camera maps.
I had the two selected from pocket cameras (UK & EU).
All are selected within Quest once again but still no joy ....................just can't view them on the quest?
Puzzled,

Your unit has them OFF!

Sounds exactly right.........problem is I can't find that as an option?
Is it within the quest unit itself?

Yes, in the unit. On the iQue they are in 'preferences' near where you select which maps you use.

When I put Navaids OFF the overlay is not shown.
If your unit does not show Navaids, then you will not see the Marine icons used in the overlay!!

Strumble,
Thanks again for your help with this.......................
I think you are right, I dont have a Navaid option with the quest and I think it may be the fact the quest can't display the icons used on this latest download of the camera database? I should have mentioned I have successfully used an earlier download of the camera map with no problems whatsoever?
Is there a way around this............has anyone with a quest been able to display the camera maps.
I am also using the latest version of software for mapsource and the quest.
Cheers

I was one of the first to use the overlay, and the navaids have not changed since then:-
Here are screenshots of a quest using the overlay.

I do not think the overlay has changed, there must be another problem.

I don't have access to a Quest, but going by experience of other GPS units, the other main reasons the cameras might not display are:

1. Detail level. Some units (even my old eMap) let you set the amount of detail to Least, Less, Normal, More or Most. If the detail level is too low the Quest might choose not to display the icons. I don't know if the Quest has such a setting though.

2. Zoom level. The cameras deliberately don't display beyond a certain level of Zoom Out, because it just becomes a pointless sea of red & green dots. Have you tried zooming in to a more detailed level?
