Navman PIN 570 - Switching Applications

When using my Navman 570 - I can't seem to cleanly change from one application using the GPs to another. Even a warm reset does not seem to free up the com port sometimes, Sometimes turning gps Off and then on seems to help but not always - Use of SmartST seems to be the most usual cause of probes in this respect. I am wondering if it is somehow holding on to the com port even if it is off and through soft boots too.

Any ideas in this welcome.
