|
|
There does appear to be at least two types of 12v lead supplied with the Nuvi 310. One has a clear LED on the lighter plug end, while the other is opaque or milky. Obviously this is before they are plugged in when both will be red or, if you're lucky, possibly green.
It's probably an insignicant difference but to follow through the 'GM12 not getting enough power' theory it maybe the GM12 TMC reception is actually better with one type of power lead when compared to the other.
So what colour is your LED before it is plugged in?
To start the ball rolling I had a clear LED 12v power lead with the 310D I took back for a refund because of poor TMC reception. |

I like your thinking, unfortunately, mine has the opaque LED and is no better at TMC reception either! |

Well, that's one for the opaque and one for the clear.
Obviously no conclusions can be made from a sample of two so it'd still be interesting to see what others experiences are, if only to be able to remove the different power leads from the equation. |

Hi
I was supplied with the 12v red led cable in the nuvi box and now have a 12v clear led cable from garmin. Hopefully this has resolved my charging problems but intially not the TMC ones. Will be able to do a better test in a few days and will let you know what happens.

Which means it's either a clear LED or there's a third type of 12v power lead supplied with Nuvis.
Certainly from memory my LED was definitely clear but I guess it's possible that it may have looked red from certain angles and in certain light conditions.
Also, although I suspect the colour of the LED before being powered up won't have any bearing on the GM12 issue it would be useful if an indication could be given as to whether you're experiencing TMC reception problems or not. Without knowing this the whole colour of LED bit won't mean a thing. |

Lets face it people Garmin have agreat gps system BUT please dont get the aerial it is more troublr than it is worth. I will be exchanging my system tommorrow because it cant do what it says on the box. Some of us are lucky and it works.
I expect that when you buy a product it should work for everyone, shame on GARMIN for giving us a product not fully tested.
The 310 is great but as always the UK gets stuffed other countries YES ...get TTS why not us find a 350 and swap software.......?
i will keep the garmin only because the maps are better, TT is good and if the aerial works first time it will kill Garmin sales unless they sort it fast..
Personally i want a sleak design easy to remove..Garmin is there TT is not even the TT1 is to plastic.... |

My original nuvi lead had a red coloured LED which of course turns bright red once plugged in and powered. This lead will never turn green as the actual led or cover to the led is red. The new lead Garmin sent to me is the clear led / covered one which does change color (green when powered but no nuvi connected, red when nuvi is connected and battery charging, green once batter is fully charged) although not as I was advised (mine hasn't turned green after 3 hours which I was advised was the time to charge the batter from flat)!
I think this means there are only two different leads in circulation at the moment? |

No, mine's is opaque when turned off, not clear, do definitely 3, and none seem any good at providing enough power |

Hi
Anyone ever used the round socket at the bottom RHS of the unit for power? Is this for the AC charger? Looks like it might accept a plug similar to a Nokia car charger.

Green when powered without Nuvi connected
Red (bright!) when Nuvi is connected |
