|
|
Hi All,
Been using the i3 on my motorcycle for a few months and have got nothing but praise for this little marvel. I'm planning trips to europe and what to make use of a GPS.
The question is, do i upgrade the maps on the i3 or is it better to put the money into a Quest or StreetPilot III which come with the maps? Will the Quest or StreetPiliot III be as good as the the little i3?
Having the ability to pre plan the route on a PC would be a big advantage too.
Cheers
Paul

Personally, I'd get (out of the current models) a TomTom One. |

Quest and StreetPilot III don't have proximity alerts or 3D mapping if either of those features are of use to you. They do offer route planning on the PC though. The Quest II has proximity alerts and for bike use is the one I'd go for although I've just seen the TomTom Rider for £305 inc VAT. Significantly cheaper than the Quest II, this is bound to be with UK mapping only, the version with European Mapping (Quest II comes with Europe) is either just out or due v. soon, hence the reduced price.
New Garmin Zumo will probably set a new standard for bike orientated GPS but you'll need a deep wallet.
Makes one realise what a great bit of kit the i3 is for the money. _________________ Chas

Cheers Bumkin
TT Rider keeps getting bad reviews regarding the PC hook up and route planning. That has put me off the rider. It also seems very large in size, compared to i3. which is just right on the bike.
I3 and Garmin maps seem very confussing, different options (and expensive). Whats the best buy?

All good solutions but why not just buy maps for the i3? 'Metroguide Europe v8' on ebay just £44 today. Use img2gps (freeware) to upload to a fresh budget sdcard - all done for under 60 smackeroos.
zumo is a beaut - but at £800??? _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

Thanks Mk_Graham,
I've just started reading about the i3, Metroguide and img2gps. How useable is it? I've read about problems on roundabouts and the voice prompt.
Looks like I better get a copy of metroguide from ebay, before they all go!
Cheers
