|
|
I have a new PDA which came with Navigon 5 software and British Isles Maps. When I start it up, it informs me that the maps are more than 12 months old and that I should update them. The Navigon website informs me that I will have to pay £89 for this priveledge (to purchase a Clever Map activation code). My map came with a code but when I enter it, it informs me that it's a serial code, not a clever map code.
Doesn't seem reasonable that newly installed software is out of date and can't be updated for no charge. Navigon don't reply to thier emails and I resent calling a premium rate number to complain, so I'd be interested to know if anybody else has had this problem and if they resolved it.
Thanks. |

hi
have you registered your mn5 on the navigon site?
you'll need your device code and the serial code
they will then send the activation code |

I've registered the navigon software and was sent an activation code for that, but not for clever maps. |

You can download the latest Great Britain map for free on the My-Navigon section of their website.
You may need to register to get access to My-Navigon but it's quite straightforward.
I don't think the map data is any more up to date but it now includes road speed limit information.
You can also update MN5 from here which may be required to display the road speed data.

Roger,
Thanks. I've registered my software an have access to my Navigon, and I can see the link that says
"If you purchased a preinstalled CleverMap you can activate it here at no additional cost." I click the link to "activate a clever map" and get a screen with my existing device id and "Please enter the license number you received with your CleverMap purchase." The only number that I have (which fits the format of the input boxes) is the one on the sticker on the front of my manual which says "British Isles" below it. When I enter this, I'm told "This is the serial number of your MobileNavigator. Please enter the license number of your new CleverMap." So it sounds like I got software with British Isles maps but I didn't get "Clevermap"? So I can't update? Just seems unbelievable to me that I can buy sofware from new that's out of date and can't be updated without charge. I can see how I get the update for MN5, but it's the maps I really want... |

Look below that and you should see:
Quote: | CleverMap Update Owners of the British Isles CleverMap can now download an updated version of the .map file. DOWNLOAD |
Although I just tried this and link isn't working, now you have got something to complain about.

Yes I had tried that link earlier and it didn't work, but it sounds like I wouldn't be able to do anything without the activation code anyway. It would be great to complain if I could get a reply to my emails and didn't have to call a premium rate number as an alternative... |

If you have a working valid activation code for your existing GB map then this will also work with the downloaded updated GB map.
In fact you will not have to re-enter the activation code. Just download the map and copy to the SD card.
Perhaps they are carrying out weekend maintenance on the server.
You will only need further clever map codes to activate additional maps of other countries.

Thanks for your help Roger. That sounds like I should be fine once they've sorted the link. Shame it's not made a bit more obvious on the site... |

They may not know it's not working.
Might be worth sending them an e-mail.
However if you get a reply you'll be luckier than I've been.

I have a new navigon( about 1 month old) but I cannot use the downloaded map. When I try I get no map found and navigon exits. I also get the map out of date message even with the new version I bought. It's a pity cos I think the maps are much better than the ones with tomtom. |

The map out of date message is simply trying to create revenue and get you to update.
If you don't like it simply edit this line in the prefs.ini file:
NoticeForUpdate = 1
Change to:
NoticeForUpdate = 0
You can also make the same change to the defaults.ini file then if you restore the default settings you will still have the modification.

Thanks Roger for that tip. I don't suppose you have a similar fix to remove the nag screen at startup that tells you not to operate the device whilst driving? |

Same files:
showsecuhint = 1
Change to:
showsecuhint = 0

Thanks again!
Anybody who has managed to download the most recent map, I'd be very grateful of they could email it to me. Please pm me and I'll give you my address. |
