After swapping my defective 910 for a good one trying to get TT to accept my changed device code is going to mean sending the original receipt to the showing the exchange and then waiting for them to process it.

While this going on no access to any of the plus services, including TT traffic which I subscribed to.

My advice in future to people will be to avoid the arrogance of TomTom.

(I wouldn't mind but as the 910 is a hardware unit I'm hardly going to pirate it without a complete fab plant to help me build the chips etc...)

Well why would I be using two 910's...?

My biggest gripe is that before returning the defective unit I asked what did I need... the reply was just send the new dev code to get the device ported over - no mention of the receipt (which is filled at work - and I'm not going near my desk for a couple of weeks).

If you tell a customer you need x and then ask for y and z its not unreasonable to expect a customer to get annoyed.

If I had brought a new device to upgrade that would be one thing but a second device in 3 days due to the first one being duff is another.

Also providing I only have one device registered on my account I can not see how TT would be losing out providing I don't switch the codes every 5 minutes.... I now have no access to quickfix, weather or traffic (which I've subscribed to) until I can get to my office to get the receipt.

OK, I can understand your annoyance if TomTom told you something different originally (but you didn't tell us that...).

However, from their point of view, what's to stop someone getting the new codes for a friend and then never sending the old unit back?

My account only allows one code to be registered.

I've told TT my original unit is dead so that device code should be marked as returned to store by TT and if any attempt to register the old code is made then it should be flagged.

One device code change every 6 months....

Not really much of an exploit hole.

If the ruddy button worked I could have sorted this without support involvement.

Just when I registered my first device....

Next time I'll wait a week to make sure the device isn't faulty.

OK, I've reported your problem to the chap in charge of the customer services.

Thanks... I should know better than to post when I'm annoyed Smile

(Forums ought to come with a rant detector - then if it detects a rant post give you a day to read it when you've calmed down and then either edit, post as is or file it on the earth spike)
