Hi, I have the ipaq rx1950 and viamichelin bundle.. I've found that the UK map is not detailed enough for me.. I was wondering if anyone knows If I can use tomtom 5 mobile with the ipaq gps cradle. Is there any special software I require to be able to use the gps cradle as I have tried installing tomtom5 and it wont recognise the gps cradle.
thanks

thanks for the post..
I'll try that.. except .. I only have COM3, S2410 IRDA and Serial cable on com1 to choose from.. I'm not sure what port viamichellin uses to talk to the cradle~

Hi,
got it working.. set the port to 19200 baud.. and it worked.
Only problem is, the speaker does not work.. dont understand that one.
martike,
I found the tomtom maps significantly more detailed... much easier to use.. 100 times better than Viamichellen.. its crap.

I've used ViaMichelin in about 10 european countries, including the UK, and I can't recall ever thinking that the level of detail wasn't good enough. Other problems, yes, but not this one. Do you mean that you regularly find roads that are missing from the maps ? Or turns that aren't shown ?
Several times I've considered switching to TomTom, but a quick visit to the TomTom forum on this site quickly changes my mind. A 100 times better ? I don't think so. |

Hi,
I live in Glasgow scotland, and you wouldnt believe how much detail is missing from the major towns, ie, not just B roads, but A roads are missing too.. I cant find any of my relatives addresses in ViaMichelin.. and they live in highly populated areas in scotland. Also, the maps are more up to date in Tomtom.. lots of turns were missing from Viamichelin. When I switched to tomtom, I found that so far its found every address that I've thrown at it. All the turns and POI are there. that was another problem with via.. POI information was very limited..
anyway.. I'm really enjoying tomtom 5 mobile. wouldnt switch back. each to their own I suppose.
