|
|
Hi guys.
I'm about to buy an all in one sat nav car unit.
I'd like some advice on which one (or better option) to go for.
I would like either the Tomtom go 510 or the Garmin Nuvi 300.
The cheapest I have found the tomtom for is £340. And the cheapest for the Garmin is £252.
Is the 7 digit post-code function a lot better than 5 digit ?
I will only be using in the UK.
Does the glare on screen affect either of these ? Is is it possible to prevent if it does ?
I use a heated front screen, from reading here I'm sure both of these are ok with this ?
Is either unit more prone to software problems ?
I also read that the Garmin has a bit of lag on screen, has this been fixed yet ?
If buy one or the other what are the latest map versions I should look for ? And are future map updates simple to do ?
Many thanks in advance ! _________________ Never buy a stupid dwarf -

I would say TOM TOM.. best on the market in my opinion..
I have got a 510 -- (had a Go 300 before)
The 510 has a great screen and easy to use on the move '-)
Post code funcation perfect... post codes are 7 digits..?? do you mean for the new london type.. if so not tried it??

personally id got for the nuvi over the 510 as it seams a to have more features and also the nuvi is a smaller form factor than the go510.
and the nuvi has no hands free kit _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

I meant the Garmin has 5 post code digits where the Tomtom has 7. Just wondered if the 7 digits made navigating a lot easier ?
Also with the Tomtom buddies feature, do you have to subscribe via your mobile phone ? Didn't understand how it works. _________________ Never buy a stupid dwarf -

OK, I think i've decided to go for the Nuvi 300.
Can anybody confirm whether it has 5 or 7 digit poscode search please.
Comet suggests it has 5. Where I saw on an ebay shop that they sell the Nuvi 300 version 8 with a seven digit post code search _________________ Never buy a stupid dwarf -

Hi Portman
Is this unit much different to the nuvi in the navigation terms ?
I won't be using it very much, and wouldn't use the european maps in the foreseable future. _________________ Never buy a stupid dwarf -
