Garmin Nuvi 300 - strange behaviour

I used my Garmin Nuvi 300 last night to get me home, turned it off and put it in my handbag, turned it on this morning and all the preset places and the map were missing, when I clicked on view map it just cam up with a blue screen with a row of yyyyyyyyyyyy's across it was really bizzar, tried turning it on and off a few times and nothing happened, pressed the reset button still nothing happened and then my aunt e-mailed where it was bought it from (as its only a week old), then I sat and read the user manual and it has in there about how to wipe the user data off (pressing the right hand top corner of the screen as it loads up) and after I said yes to that all the map and presets came back as good as new, any ideas why it did this?

Should I still send it back as faulty?
