Hi All
I am new to this forum and hope u can help me.
My pda is HP ipaq rx1950 with Windows mobile 5.0
I have the CD for Viamichelin4.2 for map of United Kingdom-Ireland.
I get the an error message when I try to install Viamichelin4.2 from the CD onto my 1GB SD card at the point where I select 'QuickInstall' or 'Mapstore'. The error message is 'An error occurred during installation. Please restart installation.'
I have followed the following installation instructions from the Michelin website
I have followed these installation tips:
To install your ViaMichelin Navigation software, we recommend you:
- temporarily deactivate your antivirus software during installation.
- close any applications running on your PC.
- empty the "Temp" folder and the "Temporary Internet Files" folder.
There is plenty of memory on this 1GB SD card. There is no issue with my SD card as I have already downloaded other software onto it and am using it successfully.
My MicroSoft ActiveSync is working fine and there are no issues with this.
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled this Viamichelin4.2 application several times on 2 different computers - and each time get the same error message.
When I uninstall Viamichelin4.2 I do so using the 'Viamichelin4.2 Uninstall' function and not using the Windows Control Panel.
Please help me - I have contacted the ViaMichelin support desk and they did not know how to help me. They said I should send them an email!
You have my sympathy, I had a previous version running perfectly well on my laptop, when I tried to re-install the software so I could download maps onto a new phone I couldn't even get the programme to install itself on the laptop again. Same error messages as you have had and so far I haven't found anyone, let alone the manufacturers, who knows how to sort it out.

Hi Everyone, Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your ViaMitchelin Mariyha, I'm no expert, but I will try and help. First off all,
Have you got ViaMitchelin on a SD card, when you bought it, or did it just come on a CD?
You say you followed the steps on the ViaMitchelin website, when you got to Number7, Figure 12, It says the software has been installed on your Pocket PC, Is it? can you go to Plan route/show on map, or whatever, is there a map on the PDA?
When I installed mine, from the CD, it transferd the Map onto the PDA as part of the instalation process, you only need to use Quick install or mapstore to Import a map to use, other than the one which is installed automaticlly. If you were going on holiday to say Devon, you could use the map installed to get there, but transfer a more detailed map of the area where you are staying, via Quick install, or mapstore.
If you do sort it out, there is an update to 4.4 if you want it, here,
I got ViaMitchelin on a SD card, when I bought it, and also it came on a CD. The preinstalled VM on the suplied SD card works no problem. However the SD card is too small (128MB) and I have bought a 1GB SD card and want to transfer the data onto the new larger SD card. Stupidly I thought I would be able to install VM onto the 1GB SD card via the CD - but I get the installation error.
I followed the steps on the ViaMitchelin website, when I got to Number7, Figure 12, - the software is installed onto my PC and the error message occurrs when the data is trying to be transferred onto the SD card (pda) - and this is when the error message appears.
You must be lucky if you successfully installed yours , from the CD, and it transferd the Map onto the PDA as part of the instalation process.
I will try the update you have suggested and let you know what happens.

AHHHHH, I see what you mean now, You don't want to install it onto your PDA, you have done that, you want to COPY the ViaMitchelin SD card, onto a bigger SD card, In which case You are doing it wrong, this is what you need to do:-
If you have ViaMitchelin, and want to copy the SD card onto a bigger
card, you can copy the SD card onto your pc, then back onto a bigger
SD card. Some say use the Microsoft Sync, some say use a card reader.
If you use Microsoft Sync, conect PDA, Open Sync, and click on explore,
and find the ViaMitchelin SD card.
Then Make a file in "My Documents", on the PC called "ViaMitchelin Backup", or whatever, and in that file make 5 Files, and name them the same as the ones on the SD card (they must be named the same, capitals, when it is in capitals, lower case, etc, they must be named using the same letters)
like this, 0 2577 InstallSD MapSonic_Maps PALM
Then starting with file "0" , on the SD card, double click on it, and
open it, and copy/paste each file into the "0" file you made in
"My Documents", then go on to "2577" on the SD card, and copy/paste
everything onto the "2577" file in "My Documents". The "0" and "2577"
folders only have one file in them, so thats easy, now go on to "InstallSD"
This folder has 14 files in it and one folder, again, copy every file,
one at a time, and paste each one into the "InstallSD" file in "My Documents",
then make a file and name it the same as the file name, "MapSonic"and open
the "MapSonic" folder on the SD card and copy/paste everything into the
"MapSonic" folder in "My Documents", each file, one at a time. Carry on
till you have coppied the whole card, there are some folders that are empty,
just make a new folder, name it, and thats it, when you have finished,
check you have all the right files in the right folders, in the right places,
the SD card and the "ViaMitchelin Backup" you have just made should look
identical. If you check the Bytes on the SD card, it comes to about 117MB,
then check the copy you have made, and that will be about 117MB too, if
its less, you have missed a file somewhere.
Now you should have a copy of your SD card on your PC, now take the
original ViaMitchelin SD card out the PDA, and put your 1GB card in, and
click on "Explore" on active sync, find your 1GB SD card, and do the same
again, make 5 folders, name them, copy each file, and paste each file etc
till you have everything copied onto the 1GB card, check it, and thats it.
You can now use your original ViaMitchelin SD card as a Backup, keep it in
a safe place, and use your copy. I did try copying everything all in one go,
but it missed files, I tried copying a folder at a time, but that missed
files too, so I had to copy each file, one at a time, you could try copying
whole folders, but make sure you have everything, look at the bytes. A card reader
is much quicker, I think they are about £20, and it just copys the whole card
but I have never used one. My way works, but it is a bit long winded, its how
I got my ViaMitchelin onto my 128MB card, but DON'T Move or Delete anything
from the original SD card. I am refering to My SD card, which is Viamitchelin 3.2. as you have 4.2, you may have different files/folders. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav
Thanks for taking the trouble to write out such idiot proof instructions for me - I need them!! :-))
I will try this later today and let you know how I get on. Like you said, I already tried copying all the file from the SD card onto my pc all in one go, and files were missed out. So I'll try it one by one with identical file names.
Just followed your instructions to the letter - they made complete sense - and I checked and double checked everything - but I was still unsuccessful in transferring VM 4.2 from the preinstalled SD card (128MB) to my new larger 1GB SD card. I will order an SD card reader and take it from there. Will let you know the outcome - hopefully this saga has a happy ending!
