|
|
I have a Belkin Bluetooth Adapter. I have paired the GPSlim236 to my PC, but it does not seem to be connected to the PC.
How do I assign it a COM port so it can be detected in GpsViewer?
The device appears as type: Unknown: Major(31), Minor(0) |

All I have to do is insert my BT Dongle on the PC, open the Holux GPS viewer.
Set Baudrate to 38400
Press the Scan Button
Should poll through the ports and find a GPS device on one of them.
Make sure the Com Port is set to the same value as the one found.
Press "Start GPS", and you should then see the NMEA data stream.
Where do you get the Unknown Major/ Minor values, I have never seen this? Mike |

The only other thing you have done different to myself is to "Pair" the unit, try deleting the pair and then re-scan the GPS Viewer I don't have to pair the GPS with the PC for it to work. Mike |

Nope, no difference
Maybe I haven't set up the settings properly in the bluetooth control panel
What should the settings be? |

I have some home made software that by-passes this but I have just tried the following and can confirm it works fine:
In control panel/ Bluetooth delete any menton of the GPSlim236
The select ADD Device, tick box My device is discoverable, turn on the GPSlim236 wait 5 seconds then press Next.
Once the scan finds the GPSlim236 select it from the list and press Next
Use the pass key in documentation option enter 0000 (four zeros) press Next.
Once completed outgoing/ Incoming Com port values will be displayed press Finish.
Go to the COM ports tab on the Bluetooth control panel and select Outgoing, from the drop down box select the HoluxGPSlim236, the service displayed should be SPP Slave - press OK
OK out of the Control panel options and fire up the GPS Viewer, set the Baud to 38400, scan and it should work this time - Mike |

I cant seem to detect any devices in the Bluetooth Control Panel (although I have successfully managed to pair my Nokia 6680 and that is working fine)
The Bluetooth adapter is connected and switched on and so is the GPSlim236.
Could it be to do with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack, maybe I need to update it or something? |

make sure your not actually connected to your smartphone, most bluetooth devices can only talk to one at a time, so if your connected to your phone you cant connect to anything else. _________________ Visit Wayfinder Life for all your Wayfinder Navigator needs |

Why do you need two Bluetooth device drivers, I suspect this is probably the root cause of your problem, The PC looks to be running XP so I would stick to just the MS stack on the PC (I have to due to other constraints) but in fairness this works with my 236 no problem.
Both the PC and the dongle I use have the same Microsoft drivers, I think you hav efound the problem - Mike |

Difficult call, if the Bluetooth dongle needs Widcomm it won't work if you delete the driver, oh the joys of Bluetooth - the supposed cross platform for wireless devices, I am not too sure what to do in this position you have found yourself, my gut feel is to find a Bluetooth dongle device that uses the Microsoft driver stack, the cheap unit I use from Maplins cost less than 15 quid and works fine - MIKE |
