i see in other posts that some are experiencing problems with the latest software release 2.90
I have put both the previous 2.70 and the beta 2.82 software on my web space and will make available for 7 days so that anyone can obtain copies if they wish.
For 2.70

For Beta 2.82

I have used the new software over the last 3 days and im not convinced that it is a step forward the beta with its poi faults seemed to operate better. |

That's something I've been wondering about.
I installed 2.82 on the day it was released. And I found it an improvement - with the timing of the voice prompts. I had no issue with stability or other problems. And the lack of categories / folders for custom POIs wasn't an issue for me.
Since using 2.90, I've had one freeze / lock-up, and read a whole deal of comments about people having the odd issue.
I'm wondering whether the beta was better than the true release... |

Without going into detail I over the last 3 days I have used the I3 to guide me to locations within both cities, towns and also countryside (35 to 40 trips). I do not use it for leisure and over the last 3 months I will probably have used it the equivalent of 3 years of normal owner use for navigating to unknown destinations...
On 2 occasions within a large town the navigation instructions given were absolute nonsense instructing me to go the opposite direction and up one way streets then back down another to where I started to go off route this may have been because of a partial freeze it certainly was not due to satellite loss.
On 6 occasions I took the wrong turn voice prompts not matching the distance countdown this was within housing estates.
I have never had any problems before in fact I have praised the unit and its capability and map data over and above other manufactures I'll give it another couple of days but I'm just about sure I'll put the beta back on. |

tried 2.9
two screen freezes, one total lock out and that was just today.
one for you lester
i also noticed a marked reduction in wass/egnos. remember the motorway slip road saga, well it failed to recognise with 2.9. i reinstalled beta 2.82 and no probs.
because i switched over quickly i have noticed the screen changes are smoother with the beta, dare i say less stutery.
maybe beta 3.0 will get it right, or are we being fussy |

I've had two screen freezes, too, since going to 2.9 - I don't recall ever having one previously - and definitely not with the beta - which you'd expect to be less stable!

I don't think we are being fussy - I've not had any problems with previous releases, nor the beta.
I haven't yet tried EGNOS on 2.9. |

Thanks for the link listing all the recent firmware updates.
I've gone back to 2.70 as I found the blank screens, freezes and stuttering a real annoyance. Not happen with losing the POI categories on 2.82 either. Having gone back to 2.70 I found that the voice prompts aren't that much worse than the supposed major improvement of 2.90. No problems since loading 2.70 and no response from Garmin either - anyone else had a reply? |

Purchased i3 today and so far very impressed with value for money. Software version supplied is 2.6 & Audio 2.0. Should I update or leave well alone?
Thanks,

see how it goes but if you are to change the firmware then from the experience of others 2.5, 2.7 or beta 2.82 will be your safest options.
an email i received from garmin yesterday advises against 2.9 until a fix is released.
audio is ok, although you will notice a marked difference (earlier), in voice prompt times with beta 2.82
i know that 2.5 is a step backwards but some state that the i3 was more stable and acted as would be expected.
as they say "the choice is yours" |
