I used my new i3 last night with the 12v power cable lead into the cigarette lighter and after about 15 minutes could smell a burning odour inside the car. I switched off the unit and pulled out the lead and the smell then disappeared.
Has anyone else had this problem or is it just my unit that is having this problem?
Naturally i am worried that the smell might turn into something more serious if the lead caught fire!
I can use rechargable batteries in the i3 but would like the option of using the lead.
Any advice is appreciated! |

Bought mine in mid Jan. Used every day since for about 1.5 hours each day (mon-Fri), plus sometimes longer at weekends and no problems at all.
Set to full volume and brightness.
I would take it back for a replacement. |

i would plug another accessorie into the cigerette lighter socket in your car and see if its the i3 lead or your socket thats making the burning smell..

| Try plugging your lead for the i3 in another and see if it does the same, if it does take it back and get them to swap it. |

| After 4 days of ownership my power lead was blowing fuses and I got a replacement from Halfords. Now after 2 weeks of ownership the speaker has failed and Halfords have given me a new replacement unit. |

Only just read this - full volume? What are you driving? A Challenger tank? ;-) |

Clue - it is a current production car (no mods) - redline is set at 8200 rpm as standard.
First letter of engine manufacturer is 'Y'

Well you said car, but I'm guessing the engine manufacturer is Yamaha?

I'm trying to think of the obvious high-revvers - the Hondas, and the rotary in the Mazda MX8.
The Hondas - well they'll have their own engines. Have Mazda outsourced some of their engine tech to Yamaha?
The last cars I can remember having partial and full Yamaha engine involvement, being the 1.7 that was solely used in the Ford Puma (Ford apparently used their tech, though, in the 1.6, too). |

Isn't 8200 quite low for a bike engine, though?
If you detune a bike engine to not reach the same peak revs, it won't get the same peak power, neither. |

Well it's a Toyota Corolla T Sport. I should not be driving it really as it's the wifes. Yamaha is cast on the cylinder head, so it may not be all Yamaha.
Engine specs for my motor are:
Quad Cam - 24 Valve - V6 - 2544cc
Sounds good, but it's very rep mobile. |

Had my i3 plugged in using powerlead for about 6hrs today n not had any problems with it getting hot or smelling |
