poi loader 2.2.1 doesn't see i3

To take advantage of the gpx converter , I downloaded and installed POI loader version 2.2.1. Seems this is essential as only this latest version can handle gpx files. Didn't realise that :-(

With the older poi version, immediately I connect my i3 to the usb port on my pc, the poi loader comes up automatically ready to go. Now nothing happens.

When I start POI loader manually, it stalls and when I hit "find device", it reports that it can't see the device. When I use the Windows hardware troubleshooter, it says "cannot load drivers - code 31.

Anyone any idea what's happened. Is there another driver for the i3 somewere?

Sometimes I need to restart my PC and then try it and it works ok.

Other times it works fine any time.
