Install problems

I have had TT5 installed on my 3970 without a problem. I recommended to a friend who has gone out and bought a iPaq hx2190 and a BT338 GPS. HE gave it me to install, but it will not have it. When the SD card is inserted it attempts to start the installation, shows the very first install screen for a few seconds then quits back to desktop. I am wondering if anyone else has had similar before I tell him to send his 2190 back faulty.
