|
|
There have been a lot of posts related to loading other regions maps. The answers have all pretty much been short. I'm still waiting for a nice step-by-step answer.
From reading the other answers, it seems that you can load maps onto the device using other map software. However, it seems like the unit will *not* navigate for you?
Can someone please explain the technical overview of loading other maps and navigation? How can one tell if a certain map software will load onto your device and navigate for you?
For example, if I load MetroGuide NA v6, will I be able to enter a zip code to drive and will it do the calculation and navigate me with voice like it does in the UK? If not, how will I know which software can do this? Is there something to look for in the software manual? All the software I've seen shows maps that look nothing like the i3's built-in map (or does the data get drawn differently by whatever device is reading it?)....
Here's hoping that these questions can be answered once and for all for everyone! |

autorouting and navigation will only work on the i3 with city select or city navigator....no metroguides will autoroute/navigate except for only one , mg usa v4.01....you can load mg's on the i3 but it will only 'show' where you are on a map.... _________________ *************************** |

How did you figure that out? |

Garmin have also told me that the only other MG is that will autoroute and provide voice prompts is Metroguide Canada. I am hoping the info is correct as I have ordered it for a holiday in Canada. The Garmin Map Pages provide fairly detailed info on what maps will do what and which are compatible with particular units:

I also found that this Canadian site provides useful information in comparing both the North American and the European mapsource products:

Thanks, that Garmin site has a compatibility chooser which is helpful.
I'm going to be moving back to the US at the end of the year, I wonder if i can find someone who is willing to trade their TransFlash card with the US for mine with the UK.
Once the map is unlocked, it can be used on any GPS right? Or, can it only be used on the device whose serial number was used to generate the unlock code? |

What about Metroguide USA V4.02, does it provide autorouting as well?
"MG V4.01 provides autorouting": do you mean "turn by turn" only or with voice prompts ?
Thanks

As you can see in my signature I have three different products. All of them are MapSource compatible and two of them are made in their respective countries.
The other two maps are meant to be routable and provide turn-by-turn instruction.
Conclusion: I3 WILL provide turn-by-turn instruction, provided that the maps are MapSource compatible AND the maps are routable. _________________ Nuvi 765T

Would you mind saying where you ordered Metroguide Canada from - I'm having trouble finding a supplier in the UK and wanted a copy for the same reason as you. Thanks. |
