Apologies if this is a silly question.
I've just purchased a 32 Channel Bluetooth receiver (Holox BT-321) for my Treo 650 running Tom Tom 5.12. When I go to GPS settings I can only see the first 8 channels. I appreciate that I will not pick up 32 satellites, but is Tom Tom restricted in any way or is that the limit of what I can pick up??
Thanks in advance

The number of satellites that you see is depending on your position (outside/inside) and the current constellation. GPS Satellites are circling the earth twice a day, so you never have the same number of birds in view.
TomTom can display up to 14 satellites, however the maximum you can physically see on the surface is 12. On a plane you may see more. _________________ Lutz

Actually in this case the GPS receiver most likely is the reason for only 8 satellites showing. Holox BT-321 has RFMD chipset, which only "shows" the eight satellites with the strongest signal level. Most likely that is to keep the NMEA data as minimal as possible and thereby saving a little bit of battery power when transmitting the data ovet bluetooth.
So the receiver might see more than 8 satellites, but it only includes 8 in NMEA data it tranmits. I used to have Rikaline GPS-6033 with the same chipset and it had the same feature. |
