Richard Davies has created a new POI Search program called CodeSearch.
CodeSearch lets you make a TTN POI overlay for a selection of UK Postcodes which can be transferred to TTN for use. The program uses the POI overlays created by George Spanellis, which are available on Pocket GPS, and searches them for a match.
At the moment CodeSearch does not do a full check on the validity of a postcode, it just checks on the number of characters in the code. Richard says he will look at programming an enhanced check when he gets a chance.
The program could be used in the office to prepare a list of places to be visited, using postcodes to identify them. When used with TTN it is easy to Navigate to .. a Point of Interest.
You can download CodeSearch here |

Hi Dave
I have the complete UK postcode database split into 6 files in POI format. The total size of all the data is ~32 MB.
I have made the complete set available for a reasonable US$15 from the following URL.
http://www.ansas.co.uk/postcode/poi.htm
Enjoy
James

Is there a link to the authors web site or any instructions on it's use. Unless I'm doing something silly I can't enter a postcode at all! |

I haven't tried them, but you should be able to copy the relevant OV2's and BMP's to the country directory of TomTom Navigator 2, run up TTN2 and go into the PROPERTIES | POI screen and enable them.
You should then be able to search the POI's for a postcode. |

Stevie,
There should be a help file with the program that you downloaded. Instructions on how to run the program are in there.
Please let me know how you get on.

Dave,
I can see what is wrong The CodeSearch zip file in the Downloads area is not complete. You need to include the .hlp, .ov2, .bmp and .txt files from the first zip file that I sent to you with the .exe file from the second zip file. When I email the next upgrade I will include all of the files; sorry about the confusion.

Thanks Richard, I'll go and check that, hadn't realised. I'll get this fixed a little later. We're going to hold off any more program and POI updates until we switch to the new server which should be very soon now!
We've got most of the content over to the new server, and boy it's fast! |
